Bethan’s Journey
While at university in the UK, Bethan joined the Christian Union and thrived in her witness:
“I grew a lot in my understanding of faith and became convinced that the student context provides a great opportunity to share the gospel.”
Bethan carried that passion into a year’s ministry as a UCCF Relay worker and started to consider doing the same abroad through the IFES InterAction Program.
She’d already been moved by stories of movements in other countries where ministry was especially challenging. Then, one day a turning point came.
Surrounded by thirty other Relay workers, she was struck by how unfair it felt that some European movements had so few staff workers despite the need being so great.
“As I explored InterAction, I was amazed more and more by God’s own heart for all nations. So, even though it terrified me, I decided to serve abroad.”
For the past year, Bethan has lived in Nantes, volunteering with GBU France through IFES InterAction – just one of many gospel initiatives your regular giving can sustain. She’s helping students do outreach on campus for the first time, and walking alongside others struggling in their faith.
Bethan’s grown in her own discipleship on this leg of the journey. She shares:
“I’ve learned what it means to be a foreigner. So many comforts back home that I assumed were my right have been stripped away. I’ve come to rely more on the Lord.”
Alongside support from her GBU supervisor, InterAction has guided Bethan along the road – through three training conferences and monthly online coaching. With such regular support, Bethan feels at peace committing to a second year of ministry in France.

Both of us grew so much spiritually through being part of a university Christian Union – and we learnt much as student leaders, supported so helpfully by our IFES movement.
Around the world, students are at a time of life where they are more open to new ideas and therefore more receptive to the message of Christ.
