Cependant, ce n\u2019est que r\u00e9cemment que nous avons commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 appr\u00e9cier plus pleinement l\u2019importance cruciale du contexte du lecteur dans ce processus m\u00eame d\u2019interpr\u00e9tation. Le contexte, c\u2019est comme l\u2019air que nous respirons\u00a0: il est toujours l\u00e0, nous y pensons peu et nous ne pouvons exister en dehors de lui. Il est si naturel \u00e0 qui nous sommes et \u00e0 ce que nous faisons qu\u2019on ne le voit g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement pas. En raison de cette qualit\u00e9 semi invisible, nous pourrions avoir l\u2019impression que notre contexte ne joue pas de r\u00f4le important dans nos habitudes de lecture et dans nos d\u00e9cisions d\u2019interpr\u00e9tation. En r\u00e9alit\u00e9, rien n\u2019est moins vrai. Le contexte influe sur notre interpr\u00e9tation de la Bible de mani\u00e8re plus importante que nous ne le r\u00e9alisons bien souvent. Le contexte nous inspire non seulement les questions que nous posons mais aussi les influences des r\u00e9ponses que nous trouvons.<\/p>\n<p>Laissez-moi illustrer ceci \u00e0 l\u2019aide d\u2019un exemple sp\u00e9cifique, un exemple qui est \u00e0 la fois complexe d\u2019un point de vue th\u00e9ologique et important d\u2019un point de vue pratique. Que dit la Bible de la mani\u00e8re dont nous devrions r\u00e9pondre \u00e0 l\u2019autorit\u00e9\u00a0?<\/p>\n<p>La r\u00e9ponse que nous apportons \u00e0 cette question sera influenc\u00e9e par un certain nombre de facteurs. L\u2019un de ces facteurs d\u00e9pend de notre d\u00e9tention du pouvoir. Ceux qui ont le pouvoir penseront naturellement que le pouvoir doit \u00eatre ob\u00e9i. Les pasteurs seront plus susceptibles de vouloir mettre l\u2019accent sur des versets comme H\u00e9breux 13.17\u00a0: \u00ab\u00a0Ob\u00e9issez \u00e0 vos conducteurs et soumettez-vous \u00e0 eux, car ils veillent constamment sur vous en sachant qu\u2019ils devront un jour rendre compte \u00e0 Dieu de leur service. Qu\u2019ils puissent ainsi s\u2019acquitter de leur t\u00e2che avec joie et non pas en g\u00e9missant, ce qui ne vous serait d\u2019aucun avantage.\u00a0\u00bb Les membres d\u2019\u00e9glise ayant \u00e9t\u00e9 victimes de responsables abusifs chercheront probablement des conseils ailleurs.<\/p>\n<p>Nos circonstances sociales et politiques influent aussi sur notre r\u00e9flexion. Ceux qui vivent dans des soci\u00e9t\u00e9s s\u00fbres et bien ordonn\u00e9es, consid\u00e9reront g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement le gouvernement comme une bonne chose. Cela assure l\u2019ordre, la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 et la justice. Certes, elles sont d\u00e9faillantes de temps \u00e0 autre. Cependant, tout bien consid\u00e9r\u00e9, les avantages l\u2019emportent largement sur les failles occasionnelles. L\u2019ob\u00e9issance \u00e0 l\u2019autorit\u00e9 dans de tels contextes revient \u00e0 servir le bien commun. La d\u00e9sob\u00e9issance conduit au d\u00e9r\u00e8glement et au chaos. Ainsi, il est naturel pour les chr\u00e9tiens de ces endroits d\u2019aller \u00e0 des passages comme Romains 13.1\u20137 lorsqu\u2019ils discutent de leur attitude face \u00e0 l\u2019autorit\u00e9\u00a0:<\/p>\n<p>1 Que tout homme se soumette aux autorit\u00e9s sup\u00e9rieures, car il n\u2019y a pas d\u2019autorit\u00e9 qui ne vienne de Dieu, et celles qui existent ont \u00e9t\u00e9 mises en place par Dieu. 2 C\u2019est pourquoi celui qui s\u2019oppose \u00e0 l\u2019autorit\u00e9 lutte contre une disposition \u00e9tablie par Dieu, et ceux qui sont engag\u00e9s dans une telle lutte recevront le ch\u00e2timent qu\u2019ils se seront attir\u00e9. 3 Car ce sont les malfaiteurs, et non ceux qui pratiquent le bien, qui ont \u00e0 redouter les magistrats. Tu ne veux pas avoir peur de l\u2019autorit\u00e9\u00a0? Fais le bien, et l\u2019autorit\u00e9 t\u2019approuvera. 4 Car l\u2019autorit\u00e9 est au service de Dieu pour ton bien. Mais si tu fais le mal, redoute-la. Car ce n\u2019est pas pour rien qu\u2019elle peut punir de mort. Elle est, en effet, au service de Dieu pour manifester sa col\u00e8re et punir celui qui fait le mal. 5 C\u2019est pourquoi il est n\u00e9cessaire de se soumettre \u00e0 l\u2019autorit\u00e9, non seulement par peur de la punition, mais surtout par motif de conscience. 6 C\u2019est pour les m\u00eames raisons que vous devez payer vos imp\u00f4ts. Car ceux qui les per\u00e7oivent sont eux aussi au service de Dieu, dans l\u2019exercice de leurs fonctions. 7 Rendez donc \u00e0 chacun ce qui lui est d\u00fb\u00a0: les imp\u00f4ts et les taxes \u00e0 qui vous les devez, le respect et l\u2019honneur \u00e0 qui ils reviennent.<\/p>\n<p>Dans les soci\u00e9t\u00e9s d\u00e9mocratiques lib\u00e9rales modernes, par exemple, le conseil prodigu\u00e9 par Paul ici est parfaitement logique.<a href=\"#_ftn1\">[1]<\/a> Cependant, toutes les soci\u00e9t\u00e9s ne sont pas d\u00e9mocratiques et lib\u00e9rales. Il y a des gouvernements qui sont oppressifs et mauvais. Ce ne sont pas tous les dirigeants qui \u00ab\u00a0font la chasse \u00e0 la mauvaise conduite\u00a0\u00bb. Certains d\u2019entre eux font preuve de \u00ab\u00a0mauvaise conduite\u00a0\u00bb par excellence. Dans nombre de situations, le conseil\u00a0: \u00ab\u00a0Tu ne veux pas avoir peur de l\u2019autorit\u00e9\u00a0? Fais le bien, et l\u2019autorit\u00e9 t\u2019approuvera\u00a0\u00bb ne tient pas la route. Comment lit-on la Bible dans de tels contextes\u00a0?<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019un des passages qui donne des orientations sur le sujet est le premier chapitre du livre d\u2019Exode (1.15\u201321). Le pharaon donne l\u2019ordre aux sages-femmes des H\u00e9breux de tuer tous les gar\u00e7ons n\u00e9s au sein du peuple d\u2019Isra\u00ebl et de ne laisser vivre que les filles. Dans la pens\u00e9e \u00e9gyptienne, le pharaon n\u2019\u00e9tait pas juste un roi mais le m\u00e9diateur entre les sph\u00e8res humaine et divine. Il \u00e9tait responsable du maintien de l\u2019ordre du monde cr\u00e9\u00e9. La d\u00e9sob\u00e9issance \u00e0 son autorit\u00e9 \u00e9tait un acte inf\u00e2me au plus haut point. Cela portait en effet un coup \u00e0 la structure m\u00eame de la cr\u00e9ation (un peu comme la trahison des temps modernes mais avec des cons\u00e9quences cosmiques y \u00e9tant associ\u00e9es).<\/p>\n<p>Les sages-femmes ont m\u00e9pris\u00e9 l\u2019ordre royal et ont laiss\u00e9 les gar\u00e7ons vivre. Lorsqu\u2019elles ont \u00e9t\u00e9 convoqu\u00e9es et interrog\u00e9es par le roi concernant leur comportement, elles n\u2019ont pas confess\u00e9 ouvertement leur r\u00e9ticence \u00e0 se conformer \u00e0 son ordre. Elles ont plut\u00f4t donn\u00e9 l\u2019impression qu\u2019elles avaient fait l\u2019effort en toute bonne conscience de mettre en \u0153uvre l\u2019ordre royal meurtrier mais qu\u2019elles en avaient \u00e9t\u00e9 emp\u00each\u00e9es par les femmes des H\u00e9breux. Les femmes avaient d\u00e9j\u00e0 mis au monde leur enfant au moment o\u00f9 les sages-femmes entraient en sc\u00e8ne, rendant ainsi impossible l\u2019acte meurtrier. Ainsi donc, non seulement ces sages-femmes d\u00e9sob\u00e9issent \u00e0 leur gouvernement mais elles usent \u00e9galement de la tromperie pour dissimuler leur d\u00e9sob\u00e9issance et \u00e9chapper \u00e0 ses cons\u00e9quences. Dit de fa\u00e7on directe, elles commettent un d\u00e9lit puis elles mentent pour couvrir le d\u00e9lit. En cela, elles sont f\u00e9licit\u00e9es par le narrateur et b\u00e9ni par Dieu lui-m\u00eame\u00a0: \u00ab\u00a0Comme les sages-femmes avaient agi parce qu\u2019elles r\u00e9v\u00e9raient Dieu, Dieu fit prosp\u00e9rer leurs familles.\u00a0\u00bb (1.21).<\/p>\n<p>De nombreuses personnes vivent dans des contextes o\u00f9 le r\u00e9cit des sages-femmes serait d\u2019une bien plus grande aide pour fa\u00e7onner leur attitude et leur r\u00e9ponse \u00e0 l\u2019autorit\u00e9 que le conseil de Paul aux Romains. Le contexte inspire non seulement que les questions que nous posons \u00e0 la Bible mais il guide \u00e9galement les r\u00e9ponses que nous obtenons d\u2019elle.<\/p>\n<p>Il y a des implications pratiques de tout ceci pour une union comme l\u2019IFES. Un r\u00e9seau chr\u00e9tien mondial comme le n\u00f4tre facilite l\u2019\u00e9change d\u2019exp\u00e9riences, d\u2019id\u00e9es et d\u2019enseignement au-del\u00e0 des fronti\u00e8res et des continents. Cela en soi est si enrichissant et inspirant. Cela dit, cela comporte aussi des d\u00e9fis particuliers. Une lecture biblique n\u00e9e et nourrie dans un contexte ne connecte pas toujours ni ne se traduit pas forc\u00e9ment bien dans un autre contexte. Parfois, cela peut imposer \u00e0 des chr\u00e9tiens d\u2019autres endroits, des attitudes et des id\u00e9es qui non seulement ne sont pas pertinentes mais sont nocives. Les interpr\u00e9tations contextuellement conditionn\u00e9es qui sont \u00e9lev\u00e9es au statut de v\u00e9rit\u00e9s universelles, n\u2019\u00e9difient ni ne renforcent l\u2019\u00c9glise. <a href=\"#_ftn2\">[2]<\/a><\/p>\n<p>La difficult\u00e9 est que notre contexte est comme l\u2019air que nous respirons. Nous ne le voyons pas et souvent nous n\u2019int\u00e9grons pas ce facteur. C\u2019est pourquoi nous pouvons si ais\u00e9ment croire que ce qui est juste dans notre propre contexte doit l\u2019\u00eatre dans tous les contextes. Cela nous appara\u00eet naturel, \u00e9vident en soi. Ce qui nous est naturel ne l\u2019est pas n\u00e9cessairement pour d\u2019autres. Apprendre \u00e0 lire la Bible en \u00e9tant conscient de notre contexte pose devant nous un double d\u00e9fi d\u2019humilit\u00e9 et de prudence.
