Toute interpr\u00e9tation est contextuelle parce que chaque interpr\u00e8te est inform\u00e9 par ses exp\u00e9riences dans des contextes religieux, sociaux et \u00e9conomiques donn\u00e9s. Cependant, lorsque les gens se r\u00e9f\u00e8rent au besoin d\u2019une interpr\u00e9tation \u00ab\u00a0contextuelle\u00a0\u00bb, ils entendent souvent par l\u00e0 le besoin d\u2019une interpr\u00e9tation autochtone dans des contextes non occidentaux. Ce besoin a \u00e9t\u00e9 ressenti par les responsables africains et a motiv\u00e9 la production de la <em>Africa Study Bible<\/em>\u00a0: \u00ab\u00a0La recherche a clairement montr\u00e9 que le sens des mots et des expressions dans l\u2019anglais moderne des \u00c9tats-Unis ou du Royaume-Uni n\u2019\u00e9taient pas toujours clairs pour les Africains anglophones\u00a0\u00bb.<a href=\"#_ftn1\">[1]<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Comme l\u2019indique cette citation, le besoin d\u2019une \u00ab\u00a0interpr\u00e9tation contextuelle\u00a0\u00bb, cette expression ayant \u00e9t\u00e9 utilis\u00e9e, survient lorsque l\u2019interpr\u00e9tation d\u2019un contexte particulier (contexte A) est impos\u00e9e ou adopt\u00e9e sans r\u00e9serve par un autre contexte (contexte B). Cela brouille le sens du texte pour le contexte B, r\u00e9duit au silence la voix d\u2019interpr\u00e9tation du contexte B et \u00e9limine ses particularit\u00e9s. Dans ce sens, l\u2019interpr\u00e9tation biblique contextuelle ne concerne pas simplement l\u2019application d\u2019un sens pur universel \u00e9tabli par le contexte A au sein du contexte B mais il s\u2019agit pour le contexte B de contribuer \u00e0 la production du sens du texte.<\/p>\n<p>Alors que l\u2019on f\u00eate la r\u00e9ussite de la <em>Africa Study Bible<\/em>, je souhaiterais vous faire part de quelques r\u00e9flexions concernant l\u2019interpr\u00e9tation biblique contextuelle. Cette r\u00e9flexion n\u2019\u00e9puisera pas le sujet, mais j\u2019esp\u00e8re qu\u2019elle suscitera une certaine r\u00e9flexion \u00e0 ce propos.<\/p>\n<h4>Qu\u2019est-ce qu\u2019un contexte\u00a0?<\/h4>\n<p>Tout d\u2019abord, le contexte ou l\u2019environnement dans lequel les gens existent n\u2019est pas statique. Il s\u2019agit d\u2019une r\u00e9alit\u00e9 fluide et plut\u00f4t poreuse. La t\u00e9l\u00e9vision, le cin\u00e9ma, les livres traduits, Facebook et Twitter rendent la fuite d\u2019\u00e9l\u00e9ments culturels \u00e9trangers entre les contextes possibles\u00a0; nous devons donc garder \u00e0 l\u2019esprit que les \u00e9l\u00e9ments culturels \u00e9trangers sont continuellement absorb\u00e9s. Le contexte n\u2019est donc pas une entit\u00e9 fixe. Et dans la mesure o\u00f9 le contexte est difficile \u00e0 d\u00e9finir pr\u00e9cis\u00e9ment, l\u2019interpr\u00e9tation contextuelle sera donc tout aussi complexe.<\/p>\n<p>Par ailleurs, le contexte n\u2019est pas une entit\u00e9 homog\u00e9n\u00e9is\u00e9e et il est donc impossible \u00e0 l\u2019interpr\u00e9tation de parler \u00e0 tout le monde et \u00e0 toute communaut\u00e9 dans son contexte. Bien qu\u2019il puisse y avoir des \u00e9l\u00e9ments st\u00e9r\u00e9otyp\u00e9s qui repr\u00e9sentent une unit\u00e9 contextuelle, la v\u00e9rit\u00e9 c\u2019est que la diversit\u00e9 existe au sein m\u00eame de chaque contexte. Par exemple, le contexte grec est diff\u00e9rent dans les cercles protestant, catholique ou orthodoxe. L\u2019exp\u00e9rience d\u2019un Juif grec ou d\u2019un Grec noir est extr\u00eamement diff\u00e9rente de l\u2019exp\u00e9rience d\u2019autres Grecs\u00a0; et le caract\u00e8re grec de ces personnes est souvent remis en question par les groupes dominants. Ainsi donc, \u00ab\u00a0l\u2019ambivalence de l\u2019identit\u00e9 ethnique rend l\u2019id\u00e9e de th\u00e9ologie contextuelle ambivalente.\u00a0\u00bb <a href=\"#_ftn2\">[2]<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Parfois, il y a cette impression selon laquelle l\u2019interpr\u00e9tation contextuelle devrait participer \u00e0 la pr\u00e9servation d\u2019une vision traditionnelle, romantique de son propre contexte, plut\u00f4t que de r\u00e9pondre aux changements contemporains rapides au sein de ce contexte. Comme commente Ott, la \u00ab\u00a0contextualisation\u00a0\u00bb doit se pencher davantage sur une compr\u00e9hension et une r\u00e9ponse appropri\u00e9es au changement social rapide du pr\u00e9sent, et moins sur la pr\u00e9servation ou la transformation de la \u00ab\u00a0culture traditionnelle\u00a0\u00bb du pass\u00e9.<a href=\"#_ftn3\">[3]<\/a> L\u2019interpr\u00e9tation contextuelle grecque par exemple, qui se base sur ou propage un id\u00e9al puriste de ce qu\u2019est \u00eatre grec, n\u2019est pas en phase avec les r\u00e9alit\u00e9s grecques. Il convient d\u2019attaquer de front le contexte polymorphe grec, sans crainte, les yeux ouverts sur la mani\u00e8re dont les choses<em> sont et <\/em>non sur la mani\u00e8re dont elles<em> devraient \u00eatre, <\/em>conform\u00e9ment aux aspirations d\u2019un certain groupe. Ces aspirations pourraient \u00eatre bien \u00e9loign\u00e9es des r\u00e9alit\u00e9s sur le terrain. Les complexit\u00e9s du contexte demandent de nous que nous examinions l\u2019\u00e9thique de l\u2019interpr\u00e9tation contextuelle.<\/p>\n<h4>L\u2019\u00e9thique de l\u2019interpr\u00e9tation contextuelle<\/h4>\n<p>Comme d\u00e9j\u00e0 mentionn\u00e9, une compr\u00e9hension ou une pr\u00e9sentation puriste du contexte est trompeuse. Et elle perp\u00e9tue en r\u00e9alit\u00e9 les erreurs que l\u2019interpr\u00e9tation contextuelle s\u2019efforce de corriger au d\u00e9part. L\u2019interpr\u00e9tation contextuelle devrait plut\u00f4t \u00eatre active dans la critique des discours dominants qui sont oppressants et d\u00e9daigneux des particularit\u00e9s \u00e9touff\u00e9es, non seulement en dehors de son contexte mais tout d\u2019abord en son sein (contexte B1 vs. contexte B2).<\/p>\n<p>De plus, l\u2019interpr\u00e9tation contextuelle \u00e9thique devrait assumer la responsabilit\u00e9 des effets sur son lectorat. En d\u2019autres termes, l\u2019interpr\u00e8te est moralement responsable de sa r\u00e9ception du texte et devrait \u00eatre sensible au fait que sa r\u00e9ception n\u2019est pas neutre mais qu\u2019elle nourrit des id\u00e9ologies particuli\u00e8res. Ce qui semble donc \u00eatre une lecture anodine dans un contexte, peut provoquer un grand remous dans un autre contexte. M\u00eame la lecture la plus \u00ab\u00a0impartiale\u00a0\u00bb d\u2019un texte qui pr\u00e9tend \u00eatre engag\u00e9 dans une interpr\u00e9tation critico-historique neutre reste une r\u00e9ception et doit \u00eatre critiqu\u00e9e en tant que tel. Re\u00e7oit-il un texte \u00ab\u00a0contr\u00f4l\u00e9\u00a0\u00bb d\u2019une certaine mani\u00e8re qui conserve le statu quo, faisant le choix d\u2019un accord silencieux avec son contexte\u00a0? Ou cela enclenche-t-il dans le pr\u00e9sent des voix divergentes dans le texte, des voix \u00e9mancipatrices en qu\u00eate de justice, des voix proph\u00e9tiques et socialement critiques\u00a0? <a href=\"#_ftn4\">[4]<\/a> Il est clair par exemple qu\u2019un jugement n\u00e9gatif concernant la formation du juda\u00efsme provient du mod\u00e8le de Julius Wellhausen de l\u2019histoire d\u2019Isra\u00ebl, du d\u00e9veloppement de formes proph\u00e9tiques stimulantes et pures vers un syst\u00e8me sectaire d\u00e9t\u00e9rior\u00e9 sans vie d\u2019une source sacerdotale.<a href=\"#_ftn5\">[5]<\/a> En d\u2019autres termes, l\u2019interpr\u00e8te contextuel doit \u00eatre averti des id\u00e9ologies nationales que sa recherche nourrit. Et il doit accueillir la critique et l\u2019exposition de ses angles aveugles de la part de communaut\u00e9s diff\u00e9rentes. Les id\u00e9ologies sont pr\u00e9sentes \u00e0 tous les niveaux de la recherche \u00e0 commencer par la pratique \u00ab\u00a0scientifique\u00a0\u00bb la plus basique de la traduction ou de la critique d\u2019un texte ou de la simple s\u00e9lection de ses donn\u00e9es.<\/p>\n<p>Une autre dimension \u00e9thique de l\u2019interpr\u00e9tation contextuelle concerne la relation entre les contextes. Tout d\u2019abord, nous ne devons pas nier la r\u00e9alit\u00e9 de l\u2019in\u00e9galit\u00e9 contextuelle. Certains contextes sont exclus de la conversation mondiale pour des raisons \u00e9conomiques. Un exemple est le manque de ressources dans la recherche. Les \u00e9diteurs exigeront souvent que l\u2019on soit en interaction avec telle ou telle monographie afin d\u2019\u00eatre publi\u00e9\u00a0; et dans de nombreux cas, ces sources sont extr\u00eamement co\u00fbteuses et ne sont pas disponibles dans son pays. Pour de nombreux chercheurs, il est n\u00e9cessaire de prendre un vol en dehors du pays afin de pouvoir se procurer certains de ces travaux. Et, bien que cela soit plus facile en Europe, cela s\u2019av\u00e8re \u00e0 pr\u00e9sent extr\u00eamement difficile pour d\u2019autres pays o\u00f9 les restrictions pour l\u2019obtention du visa et les prix \u00e9lev\u00e9s des billets d\u2019avion sont r\u00e9dhibitoires. La m\u00eame chose s\u2019applique \u00e0 la participation \u00e0 des conf\u00e9rences internationales. \u00catre chercheur peut donc \u00eatre un privil\u00e8ge \u00e9conomique.<\/p>\n<p>Les contextes qui jouissent de ce privil\u00e8ge, plut\u00f4t que d\u2019aider \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9galisation du niveau d\u2019opportunit\u00e9 entre les contextes, s\u2019engageront souvent davantage dans ce qui a \u00e9t\u00e9 appel\u00e9 la \u00ab\u00a0MacDonaldisation\u00a0\u00bb<a href=\"#_ftn6\">[6]<\/a> du minist\u00e8re ou de la th\u00e9ologie. Bien que les motivations soient innocentes, le contexte A envahira le contexte B de grandes quantit\u00e9s de livres et d\u2019autres ressources d\u2019une th\u00e9ologie particuli\u00e8re qu\u2019ils souhaitent propager. Cette m\u00e9thode est consid\u00e9r\u00e9e plus efficace que l\u2019interaction v\u00e9ritable des contextes th\u00e9ologiques locaux. Plut\u00f4t que d\u2019\u00eatre en partenariat \u00e0 un niveau \u00e9gal avec les efforts autochtones, cette m\u00e9thode est davantage d\u00e9sireuse d\u2019exporter ses produits de confiance au monde. Cela fait partie d\u2019un mod\u00e8le plus large de transplantation des mod\u00e8les de sa propre \u00e9glise et de son minist\u00e8re au contexte mondial. <a href=\"#_ftn7\">[7]<\/a> La diff\u00e9rence est subtile mais elle voit essentiellement le contexte B comme des consommateurs plut\u00f4t que des partenaires ou des contributeurs.<\/p>\n<p>Pourtant, l\u2019encouragement de relations r\u00e9ciproques \u00e9galitaires entre les contextes est de loin un id\u00e9al sup\u00e9rieur \u00e0 la diss\u00e9mination d\u2019un produit suppos\u00e9 efficace. (Voir par exemple les objectifs de Paul pour les relations d\u2019\u00e9glise dans 2 Corinthiens 8.13\u201315.) Ce dernier se fait souvent aux d\u00e9pens de l\u2019encouragement \u00e0 ces relations r\u00e9ciproques \u00e9galitaires. Ott en appelle aux destinataires de ces produits export\u00e9s pour qu\u2019ils fassent preuve de discernement plut\u00f4t que de s\u2019attendre \u00e0 un changement d\u2019approche des exportateurs.<a href=\"#_ftn8\">[8]<\/a> Il parle d\u2019un mod\u00e8le de \u00ab\u00a0glocalisation\u00a0\u00bb ou d\u2019\u00ab\u00a0hybridation\u00a0\u00bb, ce qui signifie assimiler de mani\u00e8re critique les \u00e9l\u00e9ments mondiaux dans les \u00e9l\u00e9ments locaux et de rejeter les autres. Le local reste dominant et en contr\u00f4le.<a href=\"#_ftn9\">[9]<\/a><\/p>\n<p>L\u2019interpr\u00e9tation contextuelle n\u2019est pas une interpr\u00e9tation nationaliste. De la recherche est souvent produite pour compenser un sens d\u2019inf\u00e9riorit\u00e9 de son identit\u00e9 et faire l\u2019\u00e9loge exag\u00e9r\u00e9 de ce qui est contextuel tout en diabolisant ce qui est \u00e9tranger. Cela ne contribue pas non plus \u00e0 encourager l\u2019\u00e9galit\u00e9 dans la relation entre les contextes. C\u2019est plut\u00f4t une approche d\u2019unit\u00e9 et de r\u00e9conciliation qui devrait \u00eatre une priorit\u00e9. L\u2019interpr\u00e9tation contextuelle ne devrait pas causer ou perp\u00e9tuer l\u2019isolement des interpr\u00e8tes de la conversation mondiale, ni \u00e9lever des barri\u00e8res entre les contextes. La lecture contextuelle devrait \u00eatre une lecture de r\u00e9conciliation. Cela ne veut pas dire que le contexte B ne fournit aucune critique au contexte A. Entre autres, la critique devrait justement concerner les interpr\u00e9tations du contexte A pour savoir si elles m\u00e8nent \u00e0 la r\u00e9conciliation ou manifestent un pouvoir abusif envers les autres contextes. Si l\u2019un sert la communaut\u00e9 locale et s\u2019efforce de faire preuve de sensibilit\u00e9 dans les questions contextuelles, les deux sont simultan\u00e9ment citoyens du monde et h\u00e9ritiers d\u2019un contexte qui ne s\u2019est pas d\u00e9velopp\u00e9 dans un vide mais a \u00e9t\u00e9 en partie form\u00e9 par les forces mondiales. Ainsi donc, les contextes sont et devraient \u00eatre interd\u00e9pendants et mutuellement redevables.<\/p>\n<p>Ce qui est particulier et ce qui est universel sont aussi interd\u00e9pendants. La th\u00e9ologie africaine, par exemple, n\u2019est pas produite pour n\u2019\u00eatre pertinent que dans le cadre de ses particularit\u00e9s. On doit veiller \u00e0 ne pas avoir cette impression que la recherche africaine ne traite que de questions africaines et n\u2019est donc pertinente et utile qu\u2019aux Africains. Bien que les particularit\u00e9s soient notables et en r\u00e9alit\u00e9, in\u00e9vitables, elles nous informent et contribuent \u00e0 la connaissance universelle. Comprendre la condition humaine n\u2019est possible qu\u2019\u00e0 travers le chemin de la particularit\u00e9 et de son acceptation. Ce n\u2019est qu\u2019en tenant compte des particularit\u00e9s que l\u2019on peut v\u00e9ritablement discerner les sch\u00e9mas universels.<\/p>\n<h4>La contextualit\u00e9 du\u00a0texte<\/h4>\n<p>Le texte que nous lisons est \u00e9galement produit de mani\u00e8re contextuelle et nous y sommes tous \u00e9trangers. L\u2019acte de traduire, non seulement la langue et les expressions idiomatiques, mais \u00e9galement l\u2019application du texte \u00e0 notre contexte pr\u00e9sent sont un processus s\u00e9rieux et difficile. Les \u00e9l\u00e9ments culturels du texte sont-ils cens\u00e9s \u00eatre \u00e9ternellement applicables ou devons-nous distinguer ce qui est culturel de ce qui est universel\u00a0? Peut-on ais\u00e9ment faire la diff\u00e9rence entre les deux\u00a0? Devons-nous suivre les tentatives de d\u00e9mythologisation de Rodolph Bultmann qui retire ce qui est culturel du message pastoral de la parole afin de rendre le message pertinent pour le temps pr\u00e9sent\u00a0?<a href=\"#_ftn10\">[10]<\/a> Et, qui d\u00e9cide de ce qui est universel\u00a0? La pr\u00e9sence des d\u00e9mons par exemple, est-elle un \u00e9l\u00e9ment culturel ou universel\u00a0?<a href=\"#_ftn11\">[11]<\/a> Les lectures de d\u00e9mythologisation du texte ne devraient-elles pas \u00e9galement \u00eatre examin\u00e9es pour les \u00e9l\u00e9ments du contexte culturel ou id\u00e9ologique du d\u00e9mythologisateur\u00a0?<\/p>\n<p>La complexit\u00e9 dans l\u2019interaction avec \u00ab\u00a0l\u2019alt\u00e9rit\u00e9\u00a0\u00bb du texte devrait peut-\u00eatre nous mettre en garde contre une posture qui se place au-dessus du texte, tels des chirurgiens pr\u00e8s d\u2019une table d\u2019op\u00e9ration, qui laissent notre culture d\u00e9terminer ce qu\u2019elle estime d\u2019important. En m\u00eame temps, nous ne sommes pas des n\u00e9gationnistes de notre \u00e9poque, appliquant le texte sans consid\u00e9ration, sans appropriation intelligente. Une dialectique doit \u00eatre maintenue alors que nous apportons notre culture sous la lumi\u00e8re exposante du texte, tout en mettant notre lumi\u00e8re sur le texte, une \u00ab\u00a0fusion des horizons\u00a0\u00bb comme dirait Hans-Georg Gadamer. En m\u00eame temps, nous devons \u00ab\u00a0entendre ce que l\u2019Esprit dit\u00a0\u00bb \u00e0 <em>d\u2019autres<\/em> \u00e9glises dans <em>d\u2019autres<\/em> contextes et garder ce sens de redevabilit\u00e9 mutuelle.<\/p>\n<h4>Conclusion<\/h4>\n<p>Compte tenu de ces consid\u00e9rations, on pourrait commencer \u00e0 d\u00e9finir ce qu\u2019est ou ce que devrait \u00eatre l\u2019interpr\u00e9tation contextuelle. L\u2019interpr\u00e9tation contextuelle veut souvent dire que les interpr\u00e8tes du contexte B seront alert\u00e9s de certains \u00e9l\u00e9ments dans le texte qui sont n\u00e9glig\u00e9s par le contexte A. Cela ne pr\u00e9suppose pas forc\u00e9ment une m\u00e9thode diff\u00e9rente de lecture du texte qui est \u00e9trang\u00e8re \u00e0 celle pratiqu\u00e9e par le contexte A. Parfois cela veut simplement dire jeter un autre coup d\u2019\u0153il sur le m\u00eame texte en permettant de faire remonter \u00e0 la surface les parties n\u00e9glig\u00e9es qui concernent les interpr\u00e8tes venant du contexte B. Comme les \u00e9diteurs de la <em>Africa Study Bible<\/em> ont \u00e9crit, \u00ab\u00a0souvent, les cultures africaines sont bien plus proches de la culture biblique que les cultures d\u2019Am\u00e9rique du nord ou d\u2019Europe. C\u2019est un domaine cl\u00e9 o\u00f9 l\u2019\u00c9glise africaine peut parler \u00e0 l\u2019\u00c9glise mondiale de l\u2019importance et de l\u2019influence des \u00c9critures.\u00a0\u00bb <a href=\"#_ftn12\">[12]<\/a><\/p>\n<p>G\u00e9n\u00e9ralement, cette attention port\u00e9e \u00e0 certains \u00e9l\u00e9ments n\u00e9glig\u00e9s du texte \u00e9mergera d\u2019une sensibilit\u00e9 \u00e0 des besoins et des probl\u00e8mes locaux, qui sont moins prononc\u00e9s que dans les contextes occidentaux. Une soci\u00e9t\u00e9 agricole par exemple aura une relation plus directe au sol, au cycle des saisons et aux diverses menaces sur les r\u00e9coles qu\u2019une soci\u00e9t\u00e9 urbaine qui ne participe pas aux angoisses quotidiennes de l\u2019agriculture. <a href=\"#_ftn13\">[13]<\/a> Ce genre de contexte sera souvent bien plus proche des probl\u00e8mes auxquels le texte biblique s\u2019attaque, et les questions de l\u2019interpr\u00e8te peuvent s\u2019aligner davantage aux questions que le texte pose.<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019interpr\u00e9tation contextuelle est en fait une imitation de ce que le texte faisait au d\u00e9part. Les auteurs bibliques ont \u00e9crit concernant ce que les gens avaient besoin d\u2019entendre afin de se repentir, de survivre et de bien vivre dans leurs contextes sp\u00e9cifiques. Ils ont vu dans le t\u00e9moignage re\u00e7u de leur communaut\u00e9 ce que d\u2019autres auteurs ou des g\u00e9n\u00e9rations pr\u00e9c\u00e9dentes n\u2019avaient \u00e9t\u00e9 en mesure de voir ou avaient simplement n\u00e9glig\u00e9. En servant d\u2019interm\u00e9diaire entre le texte et le contexte, ce t\u00e9moignage a \u00e9t\u00e9 gard\u00e9 vivant et agissant \u00e0 travers les \u00e2ges.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4>R\u00e9pondre<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Qu\u2019en pensez-vous\u00a0?
