Et je suis venu \u00e0 conna\u00eetre la seigneurie de Christ dans une \u00e9cole secondaire anglicane o\u00f9 la Ligue pour la lecture de la Bible soutenait un groupe chr\u00e9tien sur le campus. Depuis lors, mon affiliation au minist\u00e8re \u00e9tudiant sur les campus est apparue sous diverses formes, principalement l\u2019enseignement de la Bible \u00e0 des \u00e9tudiants. Je crois dans la lecture biblique mutuellement \u00e9difiante et dynamique, maintenue en tension entre le monde acad\u00e9mique et l\u2019\u00c9glise, alors qu\u2019ils r\u00e9pondaient \u00e0 mes questions en tant que jeune chr\u00e9tien\u00a0: qu\u2019est-ce que la Bible a \u00e0 voir avec les Chinois et leurs cultures\u00a0? Au cours des trente derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es de recherche d\u2019une expression chinoise de l\u2019\u00c9vangile et d\u2019une lecture biblique des cultures chinoises, j\u2019en suis venu \u00e0 prendre conscience de l\u2019importance de cette d\u00e9marche interculturelle, et pas uniquement pour les chr\u00e9tiens chinois. Cette question est \u00e9galement cruciale pour la foi solide de l\u2019\u00c9glise mondiale, laquelle a besoin d\u2019entendre et d\u2019apprendre des fr\u00e8res et s\u0153urs du monde majoritaire.<\/p>\n<p>Dans mon ouvrage de 1998, <em>What Has Jerusalem to Do with Beijing? <\/em>(\u00ab\u00a0Qu\u2019est-ce que J\u00e9rusalem a \u00e0 voir avec P\u00e9kin\u00a0?\u00a0\u00bb), je montre deux mani\u00e8res de faire de l\u2019interpr\u00e9tation biblique chinoise\u00a0: <a href=\"#_ftn1\">[1]<\/a><\/p>\n<p>1) La lecture autochtone\u00a0: j\u2019utilise les textes bibliques pour dialoguer avec des th\u00e8mes qui reviennent sans cesse dans les cultures chinoises, comme la langue de la philosophie du yin et du yang et la compr\u00e9hension morale confucianiste du Tian ming (le mandat du ciel), ainsi que le li (la loi\/la propri\u00e9t\u00e9) et le <em>ren<\/em> (l\u2019amour) afin de transmettre les notions bibliques de Dieu, de l\u2019humanit\u00e9, du repos, de la volont\u00e9 de Dieu et ainsi de suite. Personne ne peut communiquer de mani\u00e8re intelligible des axiomes th\u00e9ologiques lib\u00e9r\u00e9s de la culture. La foi chr\u00e9tienne ne peut pas non plus avoir du sens dans un vide culturel. Ainsi, je cherche \u00e0 exprimer la v\u00e9rit\u00e9 biblique dans la langue de mon peuple.<\/p>\n<p>2) La lecture contextuelle\u00a0: j\u2019utilise les textes bibliques pour lire les cultures chinoises. Par exemple, la pr\u00e9dication de Paul \u00e0 Ath\u00e8nes peut \u00eatre entendue comme parlant \u00e0 des philosophes ath\u00e9niens ainsi qu\u2019\u00e0 des philosophes chinois. Et le message d\u2019esp\u00e9rance du livre de l\u2019Apocalypse parle aux chr\u00e9tiens chinois qui ont v\u00e9cu la R\u00e9volution culturelle.<\/p>\n<p>Ma lecture de la Bible a \u00e9volu\u00e9 passant d\u2019une interpr\u00e9tation chr\u00e9tienne chinoise \u00e0 une interpr\u00e9tation chinoise chr\u00e9tienne. Les deux termes pr\u00eatent attention \u00e0 la relation dynamique entre l\u2019interpr\u00e9tation et le caract\u00e8re chinois (la culture, la philosophie, le texte, les modes de vie et ainsi de suite). Mais le premier cherche \u00e0 exprimer la th\u00e9ologie chr\u00e9tienne de mani\u00e8re culturelle et autochtone tandis que le deuxi\u00e8me terme, tout en s\u2019attelant \u00e9galement \u00e0 cette t\u00e2che, a au final une lecture biblique des cultures.<\/p>\n<p>Pour illustrer une interpr\u00e9tation interculturelle, j\u2019ai formul\u00e9 trois sch\u00e9mas rh\u00e9toriques interactifs de sens qui sont contenus et que l\u2019on retrouve dans neufs m\u00e9dias (angles) d\u2019\u00e9criture, d\u2019\u00e9crivain, de lecteur, etc. <a href=\"#_ftn2\">[2]<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Le premier sch\u00e9ma (triangle) rh\u00e9torique de sens concerne le monde linguistique de la r\u00e9alit\u00e9 signifi\u00e9e en relation \u00e0 l\u2019auteur biblique en tant qu\u2019utilisateur de la langue\u00a0:<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ifesworld.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/86a08-1egs7-orbhl7dtvqnjgkycq.png\" data-width=\"1868\" data-height=\"577\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>En tant qu\u2019interpr\u00e8te, je trouve ce sch\u00e9ma complexe parce que je traduis constamment entre le grec, l\u2019h\u00e9breu et le chinois dans ma lecture de la Bible. La mani\u00e8re de traduire le nom de Dieu en chinois dans Exode 3 ou le <em>logos<\/em> dans Jean 1 a longtemps \u00e9t\u00e9 une question \u00e9pineuse. Le d\u00e9fi peut \u00eatre surmont\u00e9 lorsque nous pr\u00eatons attention \u00e0 la mani\u00e8re dont les sens potentiels des textes bibliques \u00e9mergent dans l\u2019interaction de la langue biblique avec la langue des lecteurs de la Bible et dans l\u2019interaction du monde biblique avec le monde des lecteurs. <a href=\"#_ftn3\">[3]<\/a> Par exemple, <em>logos<\/em> dans Jean 1 fait-il r\u00e9f\u00e9rence \u00e0 la compr\u00e9hension grecque de la logique, de la parole, de l\u2019argument, de la structure de l\u2019univers ou de tout ce qui est mentionn\u00e9 pr\u00e9c\u00e9demment et plus encore\u00a0? L\u2019auteur de l\u2019\u00c9vangile de Jean entendait-il par <em>logos<\/em> la compr\u00e9hension h\u00e9bra\u00efque de la sagesse (<em>hokmah<\/em>) en tant que sagesse cr\u00e9atrice et r\u00e9demptrice (Proverbes 8)\u00a0? Dans quel sens le mot <em>logos<\/em> dans Jean 1 prend-il en compte les compr\u00e9hensions grecque et juive de la sagesse et de la v\u00e9rit\u00e9 personnifi\u00e9es\u00a0?<\/p>\n<p>Le second sch\u00e9ma est traditionnellement compris comme l\u2019ex\u00e9g\u00e8se biblique, c\u2019est-\u00e0-dire le souci du lecteur de la Bible pour le sens historique du texte\u00a0:<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ifesworld.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/e83c2-11-xtammz1jp_c_yc_pnwfa.png\" data-width=\"1868\" data-height=\"535\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>Ma m\u00e9thode ici est d\u2019am\u00e9liorer la compr\u00e9hension traditionnelle de l\u2019ex\u00e9g\u00e8se \u00e0 la lumi\u00e8re de la m\u00e9thode rh\u00e9torique. C\u2019est-\u00e0-dire, l\u2019auteur biblique en tant que rhetor affronte les probl\u00e8mes contextuels du public et\/ou exprime la bonne nouvelle de Dieu dans la langue autochtone du public.<\/p>\n<p>En raison d\u2019une fluidit\u00e9 du sens entre le sens historique et le sens contemporain du texte sacr\u00e9, le troisi\u00e8me sch\u00e9ma de sens est n\u00e9cessaire pour r\u00e9ussir \u00e0 concilier le tout et parvenir \u00e0 une interpr\u00e9tation compl\u00e8te de la Bible. Le troisi\u00e8me sch\u00e9ma implique l\u2019interaction au milieu de la compr\u00e9hension de l\u2019interpr\u00e8te moderne des deux premiers triangles et de son public moderne\u00a0:<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ifesworld.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/99376-1rl06f8q5p4a_63f4kvotsa.png\" data-width=\"1868\" data-height=\"524\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>Derri\u00e8re les auteurs humains des textes bibliques se trouve l\u2019auteur divin dont le sens est si riche, multidimensionnel et \u00e9tendu que seul son Esprit peut\u00a0: 1) s\u2019incarner linguistiquement dans les premi\u00e8res langues ainsi que dans les langues vernaculaires traduites\u00a0; et 2) \u00e9clairer les interpr\u00e8tes modernes dans nos langues et dans notre compr\u00e9hension de sorte que le texte biblique continue de montrer sa puissance sacr\u00e9e pour prononcer le message de Dieu \u00e0 travers l\u2019espace et le temps.<\/p>\n<p>J\u2019attribue la <em>continuit\u00e9<\/em> du sens au Saint-Esprit, passant du second sch\u00e9ma au troisi\u00e8me sch\u00e9ma. Bien \u00e9videmment, l\u2019auteur divin peut toujours travailler sans interpr\u00e8te humain. Mais puisque le Saint-Esprit est omnipr\u00e9sent et souffle comme il veut, l\u2019interpr\u00e8te biblique est appel\u00e9 \u00e0 cette t\u00e2che sacr\u00e9e. Bien que la version de l\u2019Union de la Bible en chinois ne soit pas une traduction parfaite, et des r\u00e9visions sont effectu\u00e9es au fil des ans, cette traduction a prononc\u00e9 des paroles de vie, de salut et d\u2019esp\u00e9rance pour les lecteurs chinois.<\/p>\n<p>Dans des situations de la vraie vie, notre lecture de la Bible est un processus complexe qui constitue au moins trois de ces sch\u00e9mas, lesquels convergent et sont en interaction les uns avec les autres\u00a0:<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ifesworld.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/e069a-1xvww14j99tqtp3w4rqxfba.png\" data-width=\"1868\" data-height=\"1387\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>Par cons\u00e9quent, afin de suivre un processus d\u2019interpr\u00e9tation complet, on doit envisager les neufs triangles des trois sch\u00e9mas en interaction entre eux. Chaque texte biblique est en m\u00eame temps rh\u00e9torique (dans le sens qu\u2019il vise \u00e0 persuader), interactif (dans le sens qu\u2019il communique quelque chose), herm\u00e9neutique (dans le sens qu\u2019il s\u2019adresse utilement \u00e0 de nouveaux publics) et th\u00e9ologique (dans le sens de son contenu th\u00e9ologique substantiel dans l\u2019acte de la parole de Dieu dans le monde, des temps anciens aux temps modernes).<\/p>\n<p>Pour en revenir \u00e0 notre exemple de Jean 1, puis-je en tant qu\u2019interpr\u00e8te biblique moderne traduire <em>logos<\/em> de mani\u00e8re ad\u00e9quate en <em>dao<\/em>, le mot chinois\u00a0? Le mot <em>dao<\/em> dans la Bible de l\u2019Union en chinois a-t-il pour sens le <em>dao<\/em> cosmique tao\u00efste, le <em>dao<\/em> en tant que caract\u00e8re\/identit\u00e9 de la personne ou une association des deux ou plus encore\u00a0? La traduction chinoise a-t-elle restreint le sens original de l\u2019\u00c9vangile de Jean, et donc trahi cette signification\u00a0? Et, y a-t-il une <em>vraie<\/em> possibilit\u00e9 que la traduction chinois <em>dao\u200a\u2014\u200a<\/em>en d\u00e9pit de ses limites et de ses diff\u00e9rences du grec et de l\u2019h\u00e9breu\u200a\u2014\u200arepr\u00e9sente en r\u00e9alit\u00e9 une<em> transcription<\/em> plus riche de <em>logos<\/em> que la traduction anglaise \u00ab\u00a0<em>Word\u00a0<\/em>\u00bb\u00a0? En pr\u00f4nant l\u2019interpr\u00e9tation interculturelle, la r\u00e9ponse \u00e0 la derni\u00e8re question est \u00ab\u00a0oui\u00a0\u00bb. Le sens robuste du <em>dao<\/em> dans les cultures chinoises nous permet d\u2019appr\u00e9cier les aspects multidimensionnels de J\u00e9sus, le <em>logos\/dao<\/em> dans l\u2019\u00c9vangile\u00a0: 1) J\u00e9sus est le Cr\u00e9ateur du cosmos, la V\u00e9rit\u00e9 primordiale qui maintient l\u2019univers\u00a0; 2) J\u00e9sus est la sagesse personnifi\u00e9e dont le caract\u00e8re ou l\u2019identit\u00e9 individuelle incarn\u00e9e devient la vie et la lumi\u00e8re de l\u2019humanit\u00e9 et du monde cr\u00e9\u00e9\u00a0; 3) J\u00e9sus est le logos rh\u00e9torique dont la parole et le dialogue r\u00e9v\u00e8lent Dieu (je suis qui \u00ab\u00a0JE SUIS\u00a0\u00bb) et assure la communication entre Dieu et les \u00eatres humains.<\/p>\n<p>Vivre dans les espaces liminaux de cet \u00ab\u00a0entre-deux\u00a0\u00bb n\u2019a pas \u00e9t\u00e9 confortable pour de nombreux chr\u00e9tiens chinois. Pourtant, ils ne sont pas appel\u00e9s \u00e0 une lecture infaillible de la Bible, bien que ce soit un objectif, mais \u00e0 la fid\u00e9lit\u00e9 biblique. Cela exige une confiance en Dieu de ce que son Esprit \u00ab\u00a0fera concourir toutes [interpr\u00e9tations] pour le bien\u00a0\u00bb (cf. Rom 8.28) alors que nous sommes \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9coute les uns des autres dans l\u2019humilit\u00e9, nous devenons une \u00c9glise mondiale. \u00ab\u00a0Aujourd\u2019hui, certes, nous ne voyons que d\u2019une mani\u00e8re indirecte, comme dans un miroir. Alors, nous verrons directement.
