Sin embargo, hace bien poco que hemos empezado a apreciar al completo el significado crucial que tiene el contexto del lector en el mismo proceso interpretativo. El contexto es como el aire que respiramos, siempre est\u00e1 ah\u00ed, rara vez pensamos en \u00e9l pero no podemos vivir sin \u00e9l. Es tan natural para nosotros y lo que hacemos que suele resultar invisible. Debido a su calidad de cuasi-invisibilidad podemos tener la impresi\u00f3n de que nuestro contexto no desarrolla un papel importante en nuestros h\u00e1bitos de lectura y en nuestras decisiones interpretativas. De hecho, esto no podr\u00eda estar m\u00e1s alejado de la verdad. El contexto impacta nuestra interpretaci\u00f3n de la Biblia de una forma m\u00e1s significativa de lo que solemos ver. No solo nos sugiere las preguntas que planteamos, sino que influye en las respuestas que damos.<\/p>\n<p>Perm\u00edtanme que lo ilustre con un ejemplo espec\u00edfico, uno que es teol\u00f3gicamente complejo a la vez que significativo a nivel pr\u00e1ctico. \u00bfQu\u00e9 dice la Biblia acerca de c\u00f3mo debemos reaccionar ante la autoridad?<\/p>\n<p>La forma en la que respondemos a esta pregunta se ve influido por una serie de factores. Uno es si el poder est\u00e1 en nuestras manos. Los que tienen el poder naturalmente piensan que el poder debe ser obedecido. Los pastores tienen una mayor probabilidad de enfatizar vers\u00edculos como Hebreos 13:17: \u201cObedezcan a sus dirigentes y som\u00e9tanse a ellos, pues cuidan de ustedes como quienes tienen que rendir cuentas\u201d (NVI). Al contrario, los miembros de las iglesias que hayan sido v\u00edctimas del abuso por parte del liderazgo probablemente busquen consejo en otros lugares.<\/p>\n<p>Nuestras circunstancias sociales y pol\u00edticas tambi\u00e9n tienen impacto sobre nuestros pensamientos. Los que viven en sociedades seguras y ordenadas suelen considerar el gobierno como algo positivo. Ofrece orden, seguridad y justicia. Aunque estos fallen de vez en cuando, en general, los beneficios superan con creces los fallos puntuales. La obediencia a la autoridad en estos contextos es imperativa para extender el bien com\u00fan. La desobediencia lleva a la alteraci\u00f3n y el caos. Por tanto, es natural que los cristianos de dichas comunidades acudan a pasajes tales como Romanos 13:1\u20137 cuando debaten acerca de su actitud frente a la autoridad.<\/p>\n<p>Todos deben someterse a las autoridades p\u00fablicas, pues no hay autoridad que Dios no haya dispuesto, as\u00ed que las que existen fueron establecidas por \u00e9l. Por lo tanto, todo el que se opone a la autoridad se rebela contra lo que Dios ha instituido. Los que as\u00ed proceden recibir\u00e1n castigo. Porque los gobernantes no est\u00e1n para infundir terror a los que hacen lo bueno sino a los que hacen lo malo. \u00bfQuieres librarte del miedo a la autoridad? Haz lo bueno, y tendr\u00e1s su aprobaci\u00f3n, pues est\u00e1 al servicio de Dios para tu bien. Pero si haces lo malo, entonces debes tener miedo. No en vano lleva la espada, pues est\u00e1 al servicio de Dios para impartir justicia y castigar al malhechor. As\u00ed que es necesario someterse a las autoridades, no s\u00f3lo para evitar el castigo sino tambi\u00e9n por razones de conciencia. Por eso mismo pagan ustedes impuestos, pues las autoridades est\u00e1n al servicio de Dios, dedicadas precisamente a gobernar. Paguen a cada uno lo que le corresponda: si deben impuestos, paguen los impuestos; si deben contribuciones, paguen las contribuciones; al que deban respeto, mu\u00e9strenle respeto; al que deban honor, r\u00edndanle honor. (NVI)<\/p>\n<p>En las democracias liberales modernas, por ejemplo, los consejos de Pablo tienen todo el sentido.<a href=\"#_ftn1\">[1]<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Sin embargo, no todas las sociedades son democr\u00e1ticas y liberales. Hay gobiernos opresivos y malvados. No todos los dirigentes son el \u201cterror de la mala conducta\u201d, algunos <em>son<\/em> la \u201cmala conducta\u201d personificada. Con frecuencia el consejo: \u201c\u00bfQuieres librarte del miedo a la autoridad? Haz lo bueno, y tendr\u00e1s su aprobaci\u00f3n\u201d no va a funcionar. \u00bfC\u00f3mo leemos la Biblia en este contexto entonces?<\/p>\n<p>Uno de los pasajes que nos puede servir de gu\u00eda en este tema es el primer cap\u00edtulo del libro de \u00c9xodo (1:15\u201321). El fara\u00f3n ordena a las parteras hebras que maten a todos los varones nacidos al pueblo de Israel y permitir solo que sobrevivan las ni\u00f1as. En la ideolog\u00eda egipcia, el fara\u00f3n no solo era el rey, sino que era tambi\u00e9n el mediador entre la esfera humana y la divina. Era responsable de mantener el orden en el mundo creado. La desobediencia a su autoridad fue un acto de maldad absoluta porque constitu\u00eda un golpe contra el tejido mismo de la creaci\u00f3n (como una traici\u00f3n moderna, pero con consecuencias c\u00f3smicas).<\/p>\n<p>Las parteras ignoran la orden real y permiten que vivan los ni\u00f1os varones. Cuando les llama el rey para interrogarlas acerca de su comportamiento, no confiesan abiertamente su desobediencia. En su lugar, fingen que luchan en buena consciencia para desarrollar la instrucci\u00f3n real, pero argumentan que las mujeres hebreas se lo impidieron. Las mujeres hab\u00edan dado a luz para cuando las parteras llegaban a la casa, haciendo que el asesinato fuera imposible. Por lo que las parteras no solo desobedec\u00edan a su gobernante sino que usaban enga\u00f1os para ocultar su desobediencia y escapar de las consecuencias. En otras palabras, comet\u00edan un delito y ment\u00edan para ocultarlo. Pero, por hacerlo les alaba el texto y est\u00e1n bendecidos por Dios mismo: \u201cpor haberse mostrado temerosas de Dios, les concedi\u00f3 tener muchos hijos\u201d (\u00c9x. 1:21, NVI).<\/p>\n<p>Muchas personas viven en contextos en los que la historia de las parteras moldear\u00eda mucho mejor su actitud y sus respuestas a las autoridades que los consejos de Pablo a los romanos. El contexto no solo sugiere las preguntas que le hacemos a la Biblia, pero tambi\u00e9n condiciona las respuestas que obtenemos.<\/p>\n<p>Hay implicaciones pr\u00e1cticas para una comunidad como IFES. Una red global cristiana como la nuestra facilita el intercambio de experiencias, ideas y ense\u00f1anzas a trav\u00e9s de las fronteras y continentes. Esto es, en s\u00ed mismo, tremendamente enriquecedor e inspirador. Sin embargo, conlleva sus propios retos. Una lectura b\u00edblica nacida y formada en el contexto propio no siempre conecta o se traslada bien a otro contexto. A veces puede imponerles a los cristianos de otros lugares las actitudes y las ideas que no son sencillamente irrelevantes, sino que resultan realmente da\u00f1inas. Las interpretaciones con condiciones contextuales que son elevadas a la categor\u00eda de verdades universales no construyen ni fortalecen a la Iglesia.<a href=\"#_ftn2\">[2]<\/a><\/p>\n<p>La dificultad recae en que nuestro contexto es como el aire que respiramos. No lo vemos, por lo que no solemos considerarlo. Por eso nos resulta es tan f\u00e1cil pensar que lo que es correcto para nuestro contexto debe ser correcto para todos los dem\u00e1s. A nosotros nos parece natural y evidente. Lo que es natural para nosotros no es necesariamente natural para los dem\u00e1s.
