Conoc\u00ed el se\u00f1or\u00edo de Cristo en un instituto anglicano donde la Scripture Union promocionaba un evento de comuni\u00f3n cristiana en el campus. Desde entonces, mi vinculaci\u00f3n con el ministerio estudiantil en los campus ha surgido en varias formas, la mayor\u00eda de las cuales inclu\u00edan la ense\u00f1anza de la Biblia a estudiantes universitarios. Creo en las lecturas din\u00e1micas y mutuamente edificantes de la Biblia que mantienen la tensi\u00f3n entre el mundo acad\u00e9mico y la iglesia y as\u00ed responden a mi pregunta como joven cristiano: \u00bfQu\u00e9 relaci\u00f3n tiene la Biblia con los pueblos chinos y sus culturas? Tras pasar los \u00faltimos treinta a\u00f1os buscando una expresi\u00f3n china del Evangelio as\u00ed como una lectura b\u00edblica de las culturas chinas, he llegado a comprender que esta crucial empresa inter-cultural no solo es por y para los cristianos chinos, sino que tambi\u00e9n resulta esencial para la robustez de la fe de la iglesia global que necesita escuchar y aprender de los hermanos y hermanas de la Mayor Parte del Mundo.<\/p>\n<p>En mi libro de 1998, <em>What Has Jerusalem to Do with Beijing? (\u00bfQu\u00e9 tienen que ver Jerusal\u00e9n y Beijing?)<\/em>, muestro dos maneras en las que desarrollar la interpretaci\u00f3n b\u00edblica china:<a href=\"#_ftn1\">[1]<\/a><\/p>\n<p>1) Lectura ind\u00edgena: Uso los textos b\u00edblicos para abrir un di\u00e1logo con los temas eternos de las culturas chinas, tales como el lenguaje de la filosof\u00eda del yin-yang y la moral confuciana de <em>Tian Ming<\/em> (Mandato del Cielo) adem\u00e1s de <em>li<\/em> (derecho\/propiedad) y <em>ren<\/em> (amor), para representar los conocimientos b\u00edblicos de Dios, la humanidad, el descanso, la voluntad de Dios y otros. Nadie puede comunicarse de una forma inteligible en axiomas teol\u00f3gicos libres de cultura; y la cultura cristiana tampoco puede tener significado en un vac\u00edo cultural. Por ello, busco expresar la verdad b\u00edblica en el idioma de mi gente.<\/p>\n<p>2) Lectura contextual: Uso los textos b\u00edblicos para <em>leer<\/em> las culturas chinas. Por ejemplo, la predicaci\u00f3n de Pablo en Atenas puede entenderse como una charla para los fil\u00f3sofos atenienses o para los fil\u00f3sofos chinos, y el mensaje de esperanza en el libro del Apocalipsis les habla tambi\u00e9n a los cristianos chinos que vivieron la Revoluci\u00f3n Cultural.<\/p>\n<p>Mi lectura de la Biblia ha evolucionado desde una interpretaci\u00f3n china-cristiana a una interpretaci\u00f3n cristiana-china. Ambos t\u00e9rminos prestan especial atenci\u00f3n a la relaci\u00f3n din\u00e1mica entre la interpretaci\u00f3n y el ser chinos (cultura, filosof\u00eda, texto, formas de vida y dem\u00e1s), pero el primero busca expresar la teolog\u00eda cristiana de una forma cultural e ind\u00edgena, mientras que el segundo hace una lectura b\u00edblica de la cultura adem\u00e1s de desarrollar dicha tarea.<\/p>\n<p>A fin de ilustrar la interpretaci\u00f3n inter-cultural, he formulado tres planos ret\u00f3ricos de significado interactivos que se engloban y desarrollan a lo largo de nueve medios (\u00e1ngulos) de escritura, escritor, lector, etc.<a href=\"#_ftn2\">[2]<\/a><\/p>\n<p>El primer plano ret\u00f3rico de significado (tri\u00e1ngulo) es el concerniente al mundo ling\u00fc\u00edstico de la realidad representado en relaci\u00f3n al autor b\u00edblico como usuario del lenguaje:<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ifesworld.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/8bb38-1x-am6k8re8upwa7z8rlflq.png\" data-width=\"1878\" data-height=\"537\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>Como int\u00e9rprete veo que este plano es complejo, puesto que siempre estoy traduciendo del griego, hebreo y chino cuando leo la Biblia. La traducci\u00f3n al chino del nombre de Dios en \u00c9xodo 3 o el t\u00e9rmino <em>logos<\/em> en Juan 1 ha sido un asunto arduo y espinoso. El reto puede superarse cuando prestamos atenci\u00f3n a los significados potenciales del texto b\u00edblico que emergen cuando el lenguaje b\u00edblico interact\u00faa con el de los lectores de la Biblia; y cuando el mundo b\u00edblico interact\u00faa a su vez con el de sus lectores.<a href=\"#_ftn3\">[3]<\/a> Por ejemplo, en Juan 1, \u00bfse refiere <em>logos <\/em>a la comprensi\u00f3n griega de la l\u00f3gica, la dicci\u00f3n, el argumento, la estructura del universo, o todos los anteriores y m\u00e1s? O al contrario, \u00bfse refer\u00eda el autor del Evangelio de Juan a la comprensi\u00f3n hebraica de <em>logos<\/em> como sabidur\u00eda (<em>hokmah<\/em>), es decir, la sabidur\u00eda creativa y redentora de Yahweh (Proverbios 8)? \u00bfEn qu\u00e9 sentido engloba la palabra <em>logos<\/em> tanto la comprensi\u00f3n griega como la hebraica de la sabidur\u00eda y la verdad personificadas en el pasaje de Juan 1?<\/p>\n<p>El segundo plano se ha entendido tradicionalmente como la ex\u00e9gesis b\u00edblica, que se refiere a la preocupaci\u00f3n de lector de la Biblia por el significado hist\u00f3rico del texto:<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ifesworld.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/a78f7-1fpsylo3ffw46ry4sorpzca.png\" data-width=\"1878\" data-height=\"519\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>Mi m\u00e9todo aqu\u00ed es expandir el significado tradicional de la ex\u00e9gesis a la luz del m\u00e9todo ret\u00f3rico. Es decir, el escritor b\u00edblico afronta los temas contextuales del p\u00fablico y\/o expresa las buenas nuevas de Dios en el lenguaje ind\u00edgena de su p\u00fablico.<\/p>\n<p>A causa de la fluidez existente entre el significado hist\u00f3rico y el significado contempor\u00e1neo del texto sagrado, el tercer plano es necesario para marcar un \u201chome run\u201d y conseguir una interpretaci\u00f3n completa de la Biblia. Dicho tercer plano implica la interacci\u00f3n entre la comprensi\u00f3n del int\u00e9rprete moderno de los primeros dos tri\u00e1ngulos y su entendimiento del p\u00fablico moderno:<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ifesworld.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/61008-1aarg-h9qrtty_jw45f5tpa.png\" data-width=\"1878\" data-height=\"519\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>Tras los escritores humanos de los textos b\u00edblicos est\u00e1 el Autor Divino, cuyo significado es tan rico, multicapa y extenso que tan solo su Esp\u00edritu es capaz de 1) encarnarse ling\u00fc\u00edsticamente en los primeros idiomas y en las lenguas vern\u00e1culas; mientras que 2) ilumina a los int\u00e9rpretes modernos en nuestros propios idiomas y en nuestra comprensi\u00f3n a fin de que el texto b\u00edblico siga mostrando su poder sagrado para compartir el mensaje de Dios a trav\u00e9s del espacio y del tiempo.<\/p>\n<p>Atribuyo la <em>continuidad<\/em> del significado desde segundo plano hasta el tercero a la obra del Esp\u00edritu Santo. Por supuesto, el autor divino puede obrar sin necesidad de un int\u00e9rprete humano. Pero, dado que el Esp\u00edritu Santo penetra y sopla a su voluntad, el int\u00e9rprete b\u00edblico est\u00e1 llamado a esta tarea sagrada. Aunque la Union Version de la Biblia china no es una traducci\u00f3n perfecta y hemos hecho revisiones a trav\u00e9s de los a\u00f1os, esta traducci\u00f3n ha hablado palabras de vida, salvaci\u00f3n y esperanza a los lectores chinos.<\/p>\n<p>En situaciones de la vida real, la lectura propia de la Biblia es un proceso complejo que est\u00e1 formado por al menos tres de estos planos que confluyen e interact\u00faan entre s\u00ed:<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ifesworld.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/ae01a-1r8dabozdy9pm9mwuw6bndq.png\" data-width=\"1878\" data-height=\"1499\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>Por tanto, para seguir un proceso interpretativo completo, uno deber\u00eda visualizar estos nueve tri\u00e1ngulos en tres planos que interact\u00faan entre s\u00ed. Todo texto b\u00edblico es, simult\u00e1neamente, ret\u00f3rico (porque busca persuadir), interactivo (porque es comunicativo), hermen\u00e9utico (porque es significativo para sus p\u00fablicos nuevos) y teol\u00f3gico (porque su contenido teol\u00f3gico se sustenta por la palabra-acci\u00f3n de Dios en el mundo, desde lo antiguo hasta lo moderno).<\/p>\n<p>Volviendo a nuestro ejemplo de Juan 1, \u00bfpuedo, como int\u00e9rprete moderno de la Biblia, traducir la palabra <em>logos<\/em> correctamente usando la palabra china <em>dao<\/em>? \u00bfAcaso tiene un significado c\u00f3smico y daoista la palabra <em>dao<\/em> en la versi\u00f3n Chinese Bible Union? \u00bfO significa la persona o el personaje del <em>dao<\/em> de Confucio? \u00bfO es acaso una combinaci\u00f3n de ambos y algo m\u00e1s? \u00bfSe ha restringido el significado original del Evangelio de Juan en la traducci\u00f3n china, traicionando, por tanto, el significado inicial? \u00bfHay alguna posibilidad real de que la traducci\u00f3n china (<em>dao<\/em>) represente una versi\u00f3n m\u00e1s rica a\u00fan de <em>logos<\/em> que el vocablo ingl\u00e9s \u201cWord\u201d (Palabra) a\u00fan a pesar de sus limitaciones y diferencias con respecto al griego y al hebreo? Si defendemos la interpretaci\u00f3n inter-cultural, la respuesta a la \u00faltima pregunta es \u201cs\u00ed\u201d. El significado robusto de <em>dao<\/em> en las culturas chinas nos permite apreciar los aspectos multi-dimensionales de Jes\u00fas y el <em>logos\/dao<\/em> del Evangelio: 1) Jes\u00fas, el Creador del cosmos, la Verdad primigenia que mantiene unido al universo; 2) Jes\u00fas, la sabidur\u00eda personificada, cuya persona o personalidad encarnada se transforma en la vida y la luz de la humanidad y del mundo creado; 3) Jes\u00fas, la palabra ret\u00f3rica cuya palabra y cuyo di\u00e1logo revela a Dios (YO SOY EL QUE SOY) y proporciona comunicaci\u00f3n entre Dios y los seres humanos.<\/p>\n<p>Viviendo en los espacios lim\u00edtrofes del \u201centre\u201d no les ha resultado c\u00f3modo a muchos cristianos chinos. Sin embargo, no est\u00e1n llamados a lecturas inerrantes de la Biblia, aunque esa sea una meta en s\u00ed, sino a la fidelidad b\u00edblica. Esto requiere confianza en Dios y en su Esp\u00edritu que \u201cdispone todas las cosas [interpretaciones] para el bien\u201d cuando escuchamos a los dem\u00e1s en humildad, convirti\u00e9ndonos as\u00ed en una iglesia global. \u201cAhora conozco de manera imperfecta, pero entonces conocer\u00e9 tal y como soy conocido\u201d (1 Cor. 13:12, NVI).
