{"id":1552,"date":"2017-05-11T11:01:03","date_gmt":"2017-05-11T10:01:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wordworldes.home.blog\/2017\/05\/11\/la-biblia-el-comunismo-y-el-totalitarismo-en-la-america-latina-de-los-anos-60-samuel-escobar\/"},"modified":"2019-12-16T14:38:11","modified_gmt":"2019-12-16T14:38:11","slug":"la-biblia-el-comunismo-y-el-totalitarismo-en-la-america-latina-de-los-anos-60-samuel-escobar","status":"publish","type":"word_world","link":"https:\/\/ifesworld.org\/es\/journal\/la-biblia-el-comunismo-y-el-totalitarismo-en-la-america-latina-de-los-anos-60-samuel-escobar\/","title":{"rendered":"La Biblia, el comunismo y el totalitarismo en la Am\u00e9rica Latina de los a\u00f1os 60"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Uno de los gozos de ser un antiguo obrero de IFES es poder reencontrarse con gente a la que conoc\u00ed cuando eran estudiantes universitarios y que, d\u00e9cadas m\u00e1s tarde, se han convertido en graduados que sirven activamente a Cristo. Tuve esta experiencia hace unas semanas cuando le\u00ed la lista de escritores que hab\u00edan contribuido al Comentario B\u00edblico de Am\u00e9rica Latina y vi que mi antigua compa\u00f1era de IFES, Ren\u00e9 Padilla, era una de las editoras. Algunos de los nombres de los autores me recordaban aquellos momentos en los que eran estudiantes universitarios en los a\u00f1os 60 y descubr\u00edan el gozo de estudiar las Escrituras usando la aproximaci\u00f3n inductiva a la Biblia, y adem\u00e1s desarrollaron una apreciaci\u00f3n por una buena exposici\u00f3n b\u00edblica en la tradici\u00f3n cl\u00e1sica de IFES.<\/p>\n<p>Fue en la d\u00e9cada de 1960 cuando los obreros de IFES conocieron la verdad de que la Biblia debe entenderse siempre dentro de un contexto.<a href=\"#_ftn1\">[1]<\/a> Por ello quiero decir que las preguntas que nos hicimos acerca de la Palabra de Dios fueron las preguntas que ven\u00edan de los estudiantes de la generaci\u00f3n a la que ministramos. En los 60 la cultura latinoamericana que afrontamos se ve\u00eda influenciada en distintos niveles por los pensadores occidentales que Jacques Ellul describi\u00f3 como los \u201cmaestros de la sospecha\u201d, es decir Marx, Freud y Nietzsche. Pero debido al impacto de la revoluci\u00f3n cubana que triunf\u00f3 en 1959, el m\u00e1s influyente pas\u00f3 a ser Marx. Por lo que la evangelizaci\u00f3n en las universidades deb\u00eda responder a las preguntas que surg\u00edan del marxismo. Hab\u00eda un ambiente intelectual y una fuerte conciencia del peso de la historia que estuvieron marcados por las expectativas ut\u00f3picas del socialismo como una forma de vida en lugar de una meta hacia la que deb\u00eda moverse la revoluci\u00f3n social. Esta era la fuente de la que surg\u00edan las preguntas a la que los evangelistas que hab\u00eda entre los estudiantes deb\u00edan responder. Ese era el contexto en el que ten\u00edamos que leer y desarrollar nuestro texto.<\/p>\n<p>Asuntos tales como la opresi\u00f3n, la pobreza, la liberaci\u00f3n, la revoluci\u00f3n, las clases sociales y la reforma agraria se debat\u00edan en aqu\u00e9llos momentos entre los estudiantes universitarios. Nos ve\u00edamos obligados a volver a las Escrituras para encontrar preguntas no solo para responder en los grupos de estudio b\u00edblico, sino tambi\u00e9n para aconsejar a los estudiantes acerca de sus vidas y las expectativas de sus carreras. Los comentarios b\u00edblicos de los que dispon\u00edamos en castellano eran traducciones de autores brit\u00e1nicos y americanos para quienes el marxismo y esos temas no eran un problema. Encontr\u00e9 con sorpresa que el \u00fanico diccionario b\u00edblico que exist\u00eda en castellano fue traducido a partir de una edici\u00f3n americana de 1890 y no inclu\u00eda palabras tales como \u201cpobreza\u201d y \u201copresi\u00f3n\u201d. \u00a1Y la Biblia tiene mucho que decir sobre estos asuntos! Pero tambi\u00e9n me regocij\u00e9 cuando InterVarsity Press public\u00f3 el libro de E A Judge, <em>The Social Pattern of Christian Groups in the First Century<\/em> en 1960. Ren\u00e9 Padilla y yo est\u00e1bamos muy agradecidos porque la misma editorial incluy\u00f3 nuestra lectura contextual latinoamericana en su libro <em>Is Revolution Change? <\/em>Editado por Brian Griffiths en 1972. El cap\u00edtulo de Ren\u00e9 se titulaba \u201cRevoluci\u00f3n y Revelaci\u00f3n\u201d y el m\u00edo \u201cEl Impacto Social del Evangelio\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>El fruto de nuestra lectura contextual de la Biblia estaba incluido en libros que publicamos para nuestros estudiantes universitarios. Pero Arana, del Per\u00fa, hab\u00eda sido un l\u00edder estudiantil activo, cuando se gradu\u00f3 como ingeniero qu\u00edmico se convirti\u00f3 en un secretario itinerante para el Per\u00fa, Venezuela, Ecuador y Colombia. Se march\u00f3 a estudiar teolog\u00eda a la Universidad Libre de Edimburgo donde tuvo la oportunidad de revisar el texto de las ponencias evangel\u00edsticas que hab\u00eda presentado ante los estudiantes universitarios en esos pa\u00edses en la d\u00e9cada de 1960. El editor espa\u00f1ol Jos\u00e9 Grau los public\u00f3 en Barcelona en 1971, bajo el t\u00edtulo <em>Progreso, t\u00e9cnica y hombre<\/em>.<a href=\"#_ftn2\">[2]<\/a> Unos a\u00f1os antes, en 1967, Pedro hab\u00eda publicado una colecci\u00f3n de mis ponencias evangel\u00edsticas bajo el t\u00edtulo <em>Di\u00e1logo entre Cristo y Marx<\/em>.<a href=\"#_ftn3\">[3]<\/a> Este libro se usaba como una herramienta en las universidades durante el programa de Evangelismo en Profundidad en Per\u00fa (1967) y se vendieron miles de copias durante ese a\u00f1o. Cuando los reg\u00edmenes autoritarios se establecieron en el poder tras los golpes de estado en Argentina y Chile, este peque\u00f1o libro tuvo que ser escondido o destruido. Tras completar sus estudios de doctorado en Manchester bajo F F Bruce, nuestro compa\u00f1ero de IFES Ren\u00e9 Padilla contribuy\u00f3 con dos cap\u00edtulos al libro <em>\u00bfQui\u00e9n es Cristo hoy?<\/em> otro libro evangel\u00edstico que tuvo que volver a imprimirse.<a href=\"#_ftn4\">[4]<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Ren\u00e9 Padilla y yo comenzamos a desarrollar un esquema \u201ccristol\u00f3gico\u201d que nos permitiera construir una \u00e9tica cristiana social usando la encarnaci\u00f3n, la cruz y la resurrecci\u00f3n como marco teol\u00f3gico para nuestro esfuerzo teol\u00f3gico contextual. Mientras estaba desarrollando mi obra doctoral en Espa\u00f1a, me invitaron a presentar un breve art\u00edculo en el Congreso Mundial de Evangelizaci\u00f3n de 1966 que hab\u00eda convocado Billy Graham en Berl\u00edn. Mi art\u00edculo era uno de varios en la secci\u00f3n titulada \u201cObst\u00e1culos al Evangelismo\u201d y mi tema espec\u00edfico fue el totalitarismo como obst\u00e1culo. Mientras tres de mis compa\u00f1eros de otras partes del mundo identificaron el totalitarismo con el comunismo, en mi art\u00edculo se\u00f1al\u00e9 que en Am\u00e9rica Latina nuestros obst\u00e1culos estaban formados por el totalitarismo militar y la derecha pol\u00edtica extrema. De las exposiciones de John Stott acerca de la Gran Comisi\u00f3n en los Evangelios, me toc\u00f3 especialmente su exposici\u00f3n acerca de Juan 20:19\u201323, con \u00e9nfasis en que esta breve versi\u00f3n de la Gran Comisi\u00f3n no solo tenemos una orden sino un modelo a seguir en la misi\u00f3n. Viniendo de un contexto distinto, pod\u00eda ver aqu\u00ed algunos de los puntos en los que Ren\u00e9 y yo hab\u00edamos estado trabajando en Am\u00e9rica Latina. Animado por ello y por mis conversaciones con Stott, cuando me pidieron que presentara un art\u00edculo en el Congreso de Evangelismo de Bogot\u00e1 de 1969 con el que se hac\u00eda seguimiento de las reuniones de Berl\u00edn, en mi art\u00edculo resum\u00ed la obra que hab\u00edamos estado haciendo Ren\u00e9 y yo durante esa d\u00e9cada.<a href=\"#_ftn5\">[5]<\/a> En cuanto a la aceptaci\u00f3n que tuvo, Ren\u00e9 Padilla ha dicho que \u201cestableci\u00f3 el hecho de que un sector significativo del liderazgo evang\u00e9lico en Am\u00e9rica Latina era un terreno f\u00e9rtil para discernir los asuntos sociales desde una perspectiva b\u00edblica.\u201d<a href=\"#_ftn6\">[6]<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Llegada la d\u00e9cada de los 70, las cosas hab\u00edan comenzado a cambiar. Recuerdo mi sorpresa cuando present\u00e9 una ponencia evangel\u00edstica en 1973 en la Universidad Aut\u00f3noma de M\u00e9xico y durante el turno de preguntas uno de mis estudiantes me dijo: \u201cMi generaci\u00f3n ya no est\u00e1 interesada en cambiar el mundo siguiendo las f\u00f3rmulas marxistas. Queremos ver el incre\u00edble potencial que tenemos en nosotros mismos, como humanos. \u00bfQu\u00e9 tiene que decir Cristo en relaci\u00f3n con esto?\u201d Seg\u00fan empec\u00e9 a contestarle, me cit\u00f3 a Carlos Casta\u00f1eda, que era un \u00e9xito de ventas en ese momento. Este antrop\u00f3logo peruano-americano estaba popularizando las ense\u00f1anzas de \u201cDon Juan\u201d, un mago nativo americano que les ofrec\u00eda una experiencia m\u00edstico-religiosa a los j\u00f3venes que exploraban California y Am\u00e9rica Latina. Por lo que tuvimos que regresar a las palabras de Cristo en Juan 10:10, <em>\u201cVine para que tuvieran vida, y la tuvieran en abundancia\u201d<\/em>, y tuvimos que leer contextualmente las ense\u00f1anzas de Jes\u00fas y de los profetas del Antiguo Testamento, criticando la experiencia religiosa sin la verdadera fe y la clase de vida nueva que Cristo trae.<\/p>\n<p>Mi contexto en Espa\u00f1a es diferente de nuevo. Nuestra cultura presenta las se\u00f1ales del declive del cristianismo Cat\u00f3lico Romano establecido. Por ejemplo, entre los j\u00f3venes de entre 18 y 29 a\u00f1os, el porcentaje que se refieren a s\u00ed mismos como cat\u00f3licos practicantes ha ca\u00eddo de 15.2% en 2007 a 10.4% en 2009. De igual forma, el 70% de estos j\u00f3venes dicen que han orado en un momento u otro de sus vidas. La posmodernidad marca la atm\u00f3sfera intelectual. En medio de este contexto, GBU, el movimiento estudiantil relacionado con IFES decidi\u00f3 usar una edici\u00f3n especial ilustrada del libro de Eclesiast\u00e9s como una herramienta de evangelizaci\u00f3n. Consideran que est\u00e1n teniendo \u00e9xito atrayendo a los estudiantes a los estudios b\u00edblicos basados en este libro, algunos han llegado a tener una fe viva en Cristo a trav\u00e9s de esta porci\u00f3n de las Escrituras.
