\u201cI thought about the aggressive methods used for decades \u2013 like threats of hellfire<\/em>. <\/em>I considered the deep-seated distrust toward the Korean church. And a doubt lingered deep within me: <\/em>\u2018<\/em>Isn’t staying quiet a better way to share the gospel?<\/em>\u2019\u201d<\/em> <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

\n

This honest sentiment came from a staff worker in IVF, the IFES movement in South Korea.<\/a> Such reluctance to start conversations about Christ is not uncommon on campus.  <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

\n

That\u2019s why Confirming the DNA of an Evangelist within Me<\/em> was the theme of an IVF camp in January. Could students and staff rediscover the joy of the gospel and gain confidence in talking about it? <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

\n

Finding the Words<\/strong> <\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n
\n

To heighten personal engagement, interactive Scripture sessions replaced traditional speaker-led talks. In this way, the 130 participants \u2013 students, staff workers, and graduates from across the country \u2013 not only studied biblical examples of evangelists but also explored how those stories connected with theirs. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

\n

Alongside, workshops covered how evangelistic vocabulary has evolved and looked at ways of expressing the gospel message in everyday speech. The staff organising the camp shared: <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

\u201c<\/em>Students overcame their vague fears of evangelism. They started to put the gospel into<\/em> <\/em>language familiar to them<\/em> \u2013 <\/em>not as abstract dogma but as a love that\u2019s shared through relationship<\/em>.\u201d<\/em> <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

Ready to Speak<\/strong> <\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n

Feedback from students showed a shift in attitudes: <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

\n

\u201c<\/em>Even the word <\/em>\u2018<\/em>evangelism<\/em>\u2019<\/em> used to make me feel uncomfortable. But now I\u2019m curious about specific ways to put it into practice.<\/em>\u201d<\/em> <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

\n

\u201c<\/em>As a student leader, I used to only think about the required minimum<\/em>, <\/em>like \u2018How much do we have to do?<\/em>\u2019.<\/em> But now I\u2019m asking<\/em>, \u2018<\/em>How far can we go?<\/em>\u2019\u201d.<\/em> <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

And the staff worker? <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

\n

\u201cDuring those four days, I immersed myself in the study and experience of evangelism. The sincere hearts of the staff members and their message \u2013 that the gospel is shared through \u2018presence\u2019 and \u2018investing time\u2019 \u2013 pulled me out of my doubts.\u201d<\/em> <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

An Ongoing Conversation<\/strong> <\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n
\n

January\u2019s Evangelism Camp was an important stepping stone towards IVF\u2019s 2030 vision of \u201cEvangelistic Community\u201d. Next year\u2019s nationwide Evangelism Camp will be too. And, in May, students and staff on many campuses will have opportunities to express their \u201cevangelist DNA\u201d during \u201cMission Week\u201d. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

\n

One tool they\u2019ll be able to use is Evangelism Cards. The beta version was tested and refined by camp participants and is now being distributed to IVF groups. The hope is that this practical aid to gospel storytelling will channel the enthusiasm stirred by camp into ongoing campus evangelism. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

Pray <\/strong> <\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n

  • Give thanks for\u00a0the\u00a0way\u00a0camp\u00a0rebooted perspectives on evangelism.\u00a0Pray that\u00a0participants\u00a0will\u00a0firmly embrace their calling\u00a0to be\u00a0campus\u00a0missionaries.\u00a0Ask that they will be empowered to\u00a0articulate\u00a0their experience of\u00a0the gospel\u00a0in everyday language.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/div><\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n

    • Thank God for\u00a0the ongoing development of\u00a0contextual\u00a0evangelism tools.\u00a0Pray\u00a0for wisdom as\u00a0such\u00a0resources\u00a0are created and refined \u2013 that\u00a0the\u00a0materials\u00a0will\u00a0resonate with the\u00a0spiritual landscape\u00a0across the nation\u2019s\u00a0campuses.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/div><\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n
