She&nbsp;expected&nbsp;nothing&nbsp;from&nbsp;the&nbsp;IFES&nbsp;conference&nbsp;\u2013&nbsp;it was&nbsp;her pastor&nbsp;who\u2019d&nbsp;insisted she&nbsp;attend.&nbsp;But&nbsp;Jesus&nbsp;was waiting&nbsp;for her.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When Jasmine heard&nbsp;God speak at that&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/ifesworld.org\/en\/region\/eurasia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">IFES Eurasia<\/a>&nbsp;event&nbsp;two and&nbsp;a&nbsp;half years ago,&nbsp;her life&nbsp;was changed.&nbsp;Today,&nbsp;she\u2019s&nbsp;sharing her faith and&nbsp;pioneering&nbsp;student ministry&nbsp;in&nbsp;her&nbsp;sensitive&nbsp;Central Asian&nbsp;country.&nbsp;With a handful of others, could this be the start of an IFES movement?&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-heading wp-elements-78347c27b3849e8c568b5e38cb55b4a8\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-eurasia-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-78347c27b3849e8c568b5e38cb55b4a8\"><strong>Revived&nbsp;and Redirected<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cMy life was full of sin and mistakes \u2013 I was far away from God\u201d.<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jasmine&nbsp;was&nbsp;a Christian in&nbsp;her&nbsp;Muslim-majority context,&nbsp;but&nbsp;she was struggling. She&nbsp;\u201ccouldn\u2019t stand\u201d her unbelieving&nbsp;father and&nbsp;described&nbsp;herself&nbsp;as&nbsp;\u201cvery selfish\u201d.&nbsp;Nevertheless, she&nbsp;gave in to&nbsp;her pastor\u2019s appeals&nbsp;to attend a weeklong discipleship camp run by&nbsp;an IFES&nbsp;missions&nbsp;team.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cGod rekindled my faith&nbsp;there. Today, my relationship with my&nbsp;dad&nbsp;is good and I think a lot about my responsibilities and other people\u201d.<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The following&nbsp;year, Jasmine was&nbsp;eager to return&nbsp;\u2013 and she&nbsp;wasn\u2019t&nbsp;disappointed:&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cGod spoke anew into my life. It was a&nbsp;message&nbsp;that I believe will&nbsp;direct<\/em><em>&nbsp;<\/em><em>my&nbsp;entire future<\/em><em>.&nbsp;<\/em><em>Jesus gave me a calling to mission<\/em><em>\u201d.<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As soon as Jasmine&nbsp;returned&nbsp;after the summer break,&nbsp;she&nbsp;gathered 15 students.&nbsp;Through&nbsp;the&nbsp;whole&nbsp;academic year,&nbsp;she met regularly with them.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cThis year, I\u2019m dreaming of impacting an even larger group with the gospel\u201d.<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She\u2019s&nbsp;already planning an outreach&nbsp;weekend in her city in April.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-heading wp-elements-daaa5ab341b591979c768c07279bae61\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-eurasia-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-daaa5ab341b591979c768c07279bae61\"><strong>Facing&nbsp;Repression and&nbsp;Resistance<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But&nbsp;living&nbsp;an active faith&nbsp;in her country&nbsp;is&nbsp;risky&nbsp;\u2013 meetings must&nbsp;go undetected.&nbsp;Jasmine&nbsp;reports&nbsp;that lecturers sometimes&nbsp;collect&nbsp;students\u2019 mobile phones to check&nbsp;for&nbsp;Christian content.&nbsp;If any is found, the \u201coffenders\u201d&nbsp;may&nbsp;receive poor grades&nbsp;or even&nbsp;be expelled&nbsp;from university.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cOne of these checks happened&nbsp;in&nbsp;the&nbsp;class of&nbsp;a Christian student in our group. She had a Bible app and many chats with other Christian students in her phone. She&nbsp;was alarmed and&nbsp;immediately&nbsp;prayed<\/em><em>.&nbsp;<\/em><em>Then, as&nbsp;they&nbsp;were&nbsp;gathering&nbsp;all&nbsp;the&nbsp;phones<\/em><em>,&nbsp;<\/em><em>they \u201cforgot\u201d to take hers<\/em><em>!&nbsp;<\/em><em>The Lord obviously&nbsp;intervened<\/em><em>.\u201d<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition to&nbsp;facing repression from authorities,&nbsp;student ministry&nbsp;may&nbsp;also&nbsp;be&nbsp;resisted by the&nbsp;church.&nbsp;The enthusiasm of&nbsp;Jasmine\u2019s pastor&nbsp;is&nbsp;uncommon.&nbsp;Many&nbsp;church&nbsp;leaders&nbsp;are suspicious of parachurch organisations&nbsp;because there is&nbsp;little&nbsp;precedent&nbsp;for&nbsp;them&nbsp;in Eurasia.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Despite these challenges,&nbsp;three&nbsp;Bible study&nbsp;groups&nbsp;now exist&nbsp;\u2013 Jasmine&#8217;s and two others in different cities.&nbsp;In November,&nbsp;a&nbsp;weekend conference&nbsp;brought 45&nbsp;such&nbsp;students together.&nbsp;Jasmine says,&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201c<\/em><em>These are small&nbsp;beginnings. Please pray&nbsp;that God will&nbsp;raise&nbsp;a strong student movement in our country.<\/em><em>\u201d<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-heading wp-elements-216f17e73fb9b05c2a0e1347d6e93c04\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-eurasia-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-216f17e73fb9b05c2a0e1347d6e93c04\"><strong>Pray<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-list\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><div class=\"wp-block block-core-list-item\">\n<li>Thank God for&nbsp;Jasmine*,&nbsp;for her changed&nbsp;life&nbsp;and willing response.&nbsp;Give thanks&nbsp;for the way&nbsp;God&nbsp;has&nbsp;used&nbsp;IFES&nbsp;summer&nbsp;teams&nbsp;to form&nbsp;a&nbsp;fledgling network of student ministry.&nbsp;Praise&nbsp;him&nbsp;for the students\u2019 growth and resilience amid repression and&nbsp;suspicion.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/div><\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-list\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><div class=\"wp-block block-core-list-item\">\n<li>Pray that God will protect these young leaders&nbsp;and&nbsp;give them wisdom about how to meet and share their faith.&nbsp;Pray especially for the outreach Jasmine is planning for April.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/div><\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-list\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><div class=\"wp-block block-core-list-item\">\n<li>Ask&nbsp;God&nbsp;to&nbsp;guide steps towards forming a board and appointing a&nbsp;first&nbsp;staff worker.&nbsp;Pray&nbsp;that&nbsp;more&nbsp;churches will see and understand&nbsp;this&nbsp;ministry\u2019s impact&nbsp;on campus, church, and society.&nbsp;And&nbsp;ask that plans for&nbsp;a&nbsp;ministry&nbsp;exchange with a&nbsp;neighbouring&nbsp;IFES&nbsp;movement&nbsp;will&nbsp;be realised&nbsp;and&nbsp;further strengthen these \u201csmall beginnings\u201d.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/div><\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">*name&nbsp;changed to protect identity.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"featured_media":50485,"template":"","area":[457],"theme":[],"class_list":["post-50483","prayerline","type-prayerline","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","area-eurasia"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.2 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/product\/yoast-seo-wordpress\/ -->\n<title>From No Hopes\u00a0to New Horizons &#183; IFES Prayerline<\/title>\n<meta name=\"description\" content=\"Jasmine*&nbsp;arrived&nbsp;feeling&nbsp;numb.
