{"id":50081,"date":"2025-12-23T10:51:48","date_gmt":"2025-12-23T10:51:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ifesworld.org\/?post_type=prayerline&#038;p=50081"},"modified":"2025-12-23T15:22:20","modified_gmt":"2025-12-23T15:22:20","slug":"powerful-and-effective","status":"publish","type":"prayerline","link":"https:\/\/ifesworld.org\/en\/prayerline\/powerful-and-effective\/","title":{"rendered":"Powerful and Effective"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wp-block block-core-html\">\n<iframe title=\"Powerful and Effective\" allowtransparency=\"true\" height=\"150\" width=\"100%\" style=\"border: none; min-width: min(100%, 430px);height:150px;\" scrolling=\"no\" data-name=\"pb-iframe-player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.podbean.com\/player-v2\/?i=sxvef-19fdf3a-pb&#038;from=pb6admin&#038;share=1&#038;download=1&#038;rtl=0&#038;fonts=Arial&#038;skin=\n007696&#038;font-color=ffffff&#038;logo_link=episode_page&#038;btn-skin=666666\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Thank you for praying for students&nbsp;throughout&nbsp;2025.<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this&nbsp;Prayerline&nbsp;\u2013&nbsp;as&nbsp;we&nbsp;hear back from those&nbsp;for whom&nbsp;we\u2019ve&nbsp;prayed&nbsp;\u2013&nbsp;words&nbsp;about prayer being \u201cpowerful and effective\u201d&nbsp;might&nbsp;come to mind&nbsp;(James 5:16).&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Praying&nbsp;has many benefits&nbsp;\u2013 it deepens our relationship with God, it&nbsp;sharpens&nbsp;our perspective on the world, it&nbsp;opens&nbsp;a space&nbsp;for&nbsp;our steps&nbsp;to be&nbsp;guided. But James\u2019&nbsp;flashback to Elijah\u2019s efficacious prayers&nbsp;(vs.17-18)&nbsp;focuses&nbsp;on&nbsp;one&nbsp;fundamental truth:&nbsp;it&nbsp;changes&nbsp;situations.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2025, when&nbsp;you&nbsp;brought&nbsp;the requests in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/ifesworld.org\/en\/prayerline\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Prayerline<\/a>&nbsp;to&nbsp;the Father through the Son in the power of the Spirit,&nbsp;you&nbsp;impacted&nbsp;lives, ministries, and campuses.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Take a look:&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-heading\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><mark style=\"background-color:#FFE81A\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Opportunities Arise<\/mark><\/strong><\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We prayed for&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/ifesworld.org\/en\/prayerline\/rising-above-the-ruins\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the ongoing crisis in Haiti and for staff worker Descheny<\/a>&nbsp;as he continued to encourage and equip students there. This year, Descheny was appointed GBEUH General Secretary and was able to attend an IFES regional training event in St Lucia \u2013 the first time&nbsp;he\u2019d&nbsp;ever travelled outside of Haiti. Ever mindful of his calling to student ministry, he writes:&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cWhen I returned to Haiti, gang activities blocked my bus route home and left me stranded in Cap-Haitien for more than a week. However, I took advantage of the setback and truly experienced&nbsp;how&nbsp;\u201call things work together for good\u201d<\/em><em>:&nbsp;<\/em><strong><em>while I was stuck there, I laid foundations<\/em><\/strong><em>&nbsp;for starting GBEUH ministry in that northern region.\u201d<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-heading wp-elements-c9cf68e1470cce3f6ffa91a5a32b3cea\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-south-asia-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-c9cf68e1470cce3f6ffa91a5a32b3cea\"><strong>Witness Strengthened<\/strong><\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We prayed for&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/ifesworld.org\/en\/prayerline\/the-undeniable-gospel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the undeniable advance of the gospel in a sensitive country in South Asia<\/a>&nbsp;and for practical steps towards a sustainable movement. Savithri, Regional Secretary, notes:&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cAt a recent three-day Indigenous Support Development meeting with&nbsp;this and&nbsp;another movement in the region, I sensed&nbsp;much expectancy and&nbsp;<\/em><strong><em>a learning that went way beyond skin-deep<\/em><\/strong><em>. There was a spirit of&nbsp;generosity that seemed infectious.\u201d<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-heading wp-elements-599d7279b50b173f27a8e60e1a791f58\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-epsa-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-599d7279b50b173f27a8e60e1a791f58\"><strong>Godly Leaders Raised<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We prayed for&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/ifesworld.org\/en\/prayerline\/shaped-for-service\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Landing and his fellow student leaders in The Gambia<\/a>&nbsp;\u2013 that their engagement with Scripture would&nbsp;help&nbsp;shape Christlike character. Julien, FES General Secretary, reports:&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cThe Lord is raising student leaders who are hungry for him and willing to learn the ways of Christ. It is&nbsp;evident&nbsp;from their character that&nbsp;<\/em><strong><em>Christ is being formed in them<\/em><\/strong><em>.\u201d<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At that time, we also prayed for \u201cThe Work of his Hands\u201d \u2013 IFES Global Giving Day 2025. It was thrilling to see that over 400 supporters, staff, and students from over 100 countries and territories reached the $110,000 USD target. With&nbsp;additional&nbsp;support from a generous matching fund, a total of more than $230,000 USD has been boosting 26&nbsp;leadership development&nbsp;initiatives&nbsp;across IFES.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-heading wp-elements-b2df9c10d7c76c1b7f361758b9400572\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-south-pacific-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-b2df9c10d7c76c1b7f361758b9400572\"><strong>Hunger Grows<\/strong><\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We gave thanks for&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/ifesworld.org\/en\/prayerline\/dining-with-jesus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the successful reimagining of outreach at one Christian Union (CU) in New Zealand<\/a>&nbsp;and prayed for their ongoing dinner-with-Bible-study gatherings. They&nbsp;tell us:&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201c<\/em><em>We\u2019ve&nbsp;explored gospel encounters with Jesus, God\u2019s heart for the nations&nbsp;in&nbsp;Jonah, the priorities of the early church in Acts, and the new kind of kingdom found in the Sermon on the Mount.&nbsp;<\/em><strong><em>It was amazing to see the hunger for God&#8217;s Word grow,&nbsp;<\/em><\/strong><em>with many&nbsp;sticking&nbsp;around to ask more questions. And several non-Christians have been regularly attending. These evenings have&nbsp;provided&nbsp;valuable opportunities for gentle, intentional gospel conversations and ongoing spiritual exploration.\u201d<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-heading wp-elements-6124b2b5fff73c0a2e95783700c93415\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-latin-america-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-6124b2b5fff73c0a2e95783700c93415\"><strong>Commitment&nbsp;Deepens<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We prayed for&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/ifesworld.org\/en\/prayerline\/passing-on-a-passion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">engaging&nbsp;outreach and authentic witness&nbsp;in Honduras<\/a>, especially among student leaders and graduates. They&nbsp;share:&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cCarlos has continued to grow in his leadership and will be presented as the new student representative at our January 2026 Assembly.&nbsp;And all 11 student leaders who&nbsp;participated&nbsp;in the training in Mexico have&nbsp;faithfully&nbsp;served throughout the year<\/em><em>.&nbsp;<\/em><strong><em>They\u2019ve&nbsp;shown a level of commitment that only the Lord can cultivate in their hearts<\/em><\/strong><em>.\u201d<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cWe thank God for the 24 graduates who took part in the&nbsp;<\/em><em>\u2018<\/em><em>Connected in Love<\/em><em>\u2019<\/em><em>&nbsp;retreat \u2013&nbsp;including<\/em><em>&nbsp;<\/em><em>10&nbsp;first timers.&nbsp;All are contributing to the ministry according to their gifts and abilities \u2013 some financially, some with time or&nbsp;expertise, and others with practical help like transport for camps.&nbsp;<\/em><strong><em>We give thanks to God for this growing team of committed professionals<\/em><\/strong><em>&nbsp;and for the generous ways in which&nbsp;they\u2019re&nbsp;serving the movement.\u201d<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-heading wp-elements-774ab3d4c254385f7a2da16fd3359e66\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-east-asia-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-774ab3d4c254385f7a2da16fd3359e66\"><strong>New Life Takes Root<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We gave thanks for&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/ifesworld.org\/en\/prayerline\/a-gradual-awakening\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">God\u2019s work in Srey Leak and prayed for the next chapter of ministry in Cambodia<\/a>. The General Secretary&nbsp;writes:&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201c<\/em><em>We\u2019re&nbsp;going to invite Srey Leak to join the student leadership team in 2026 because&nbsp;<\/em><strong><em>we have seen her faith mature&nbsp;and&nbsp;her heart filled with love<\/em><\/strong><em>,&nbsp;<\/em><em>with a&nbsp;desire to serve the student movement. We hope that&nbsp;this opportunity will help her&nbsp;grow in her understanding of the Bible, life, and mission.\u201d<\/em><em>\u202f<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cWe plan to do a prayer walk in a new city. We&nbsp;don\u2019t&nbsp;yet know how it will happen, but we trust in God\u2019s timing and calling. We want to learn from Genesis 22 \u2013 to obey God\u2019s calling and wait for His provision.\u201d<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-heading wp-elements-758e1b6efcf07329e2934d0efe1f2b4a\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-north-america-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-758e1b6efcf07329e2934d0efe1f2b4a\"><strong>Enthusiasm&nbsp;Sustained<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We&nbsp;prayed for&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/ifesworld.org\/en\/prayerline\/a-beautiful-partnership\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">campuses&nbsp;in French-speaking Canada<\/a>, where we reported&nbsp;a&nbsp;growing&nbsp;spiritual interest&nbsp;and&nbsp;more&nbsp;initiative&nbsp;from&nbsp;student leaders.&nbsp;Staff worker Tommy shares:&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201c<\/em><em>Despite a series of transport strikes&nbsp;that&nbsp;forced&nbsp;Montreal universities to return to online classes,&nbsp;the&nbsp;<\/em><strong><em>students have&nbsp;persevered in meeting&nbsp;together, edifying and encouraging one another<\/em><\/strong><em>.\u201d<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-heading wp-elements-ccdaea227c10d78f438ecb63f7a9221a\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-eurasia-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-ccdaea227c10d78f438ecb63f7a9221a\"><strong>Newcomers and New Places&nbsp;Reached<\/strong><\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We prayed for&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/ifesworld.org\/en\/prayerline\/seriously\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">evangelism in Moldova<\/a>, including&nbsp;September\u2019s&nbsp;\u2018Welcome to the university\u2019&nbsp;outreach in Chi\u0219in\u0103u and&nbsp;B\u0103l\u021bi.&nbsp;Overall, 700 students were welcomed with&nbsp;friendly conversation, a gift, and invitations to English club,&nbsp;Grill-a-Christian, and Bible study and prayer groups.&nbsp;One of the students on the team said:&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201c<\/em><strong><em>I\u2019m so happy to welcome the first-year students, to step out of my comfort zone<\/em><\/strong><em>&nbsp;and get close to them because I know the difference it makes.\u201d<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We also prayed for the 16 student leaders who were attending the IFES Eurasia&nbsp;<em>Formacion<\/em><em>&nbsp;<\/em>training&nbsp;in Georgia.&nbsp;A CSC Moldova staff worker shares:&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201c<\/em><em>A great encouragement for us has been Dana, a student from the north of the country.&nbsp;She&nbsp;returned with fresh vision from&nbsp;<\/em>Formacion<em>, saying it&nbsp;had&nbsp;helped her&nbsp;get closer to God.&nbsp;She&nbsp;planned to&nbsp;gather some&nbsp;Christian students&nbsp;to&nbsp;meet for prayer at&nbsp;her&nbsp;college in the north, where no CSC group yet existed. When&nbsp;I&nbsp;recently&nbsp;contacted&nbsp;her<\/em><em>,&nbsp;<\/em><em>she told me&nbsp;<\/em><strong><em>they\u2019d&nbsp;already&nbsp;started a Bible study with&nbsp;some&nbsp;girls<\/em><\/strong><em>!\u201d&nbsp;<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-heading wp-elements-b750e01f6c152925bd7d0f9cc519e2a8\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-europe-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-b750e01f6c152925bd7d0f9cc519e2a8\"><strong>Energized and Equipped<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We prayed for&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/ifesworld.org\/en\/prayerline\/giving-god-space\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the European Student Festival in Latvia<\/a>, for God to work&nbsp;through the planned and the unplanned.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cWe&#8217;ve received so much&#8230;&nbsp;it\u2019s&nbsp;been amazing to be in unity.&nbsp;That\u2019s&nbsp;something we want to bring to our country \u2013 to be able to worship together with&nbsp;<\/em><strong><em>passion and fire for the Lord<\/em><\/strong><em>.\u201d<\/em>&nbsp;Elena, student&nbsp;in&nbsp;BCSU&nbsp;Bulgaria.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201c<\/em><strong><em>The festival has equipped me to answer&nbsp;hard questions<\/em><\/strong><em>&nbsp;like \u2018Why is there evil in the world if God is so good?\u2019 This is a very topical question for Ukrainian students.&nbsp;It\u2019s&nbsp;prepared me to lead Bible studies and discussions with believers and unbelievers.\u201d<\/em>&nbsp;Anna, student&nbsp;in&nbsp;CCX Ukraine.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-heading wp-elements-1029db073ab799020a4bfecf48edb575\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-primary-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-1029db073ab799020a4bfecf48edb575\"><strong>Global Partnership Spreads<\/strong><\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We prayed for&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/ifesworld.org\/en\/prayerline\/it-just-got-real\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a team who visited IFES ministry in Eurasia<\/a>&nbsp;as they&nbsp;returned to&nbsp;their North American campuses to&nbsp;pass on a deeper concern for God\u2019s&nbsp;worldwide&nbsp;work. Some of them say:&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201c<\/em><strong><em>We had a 7pm-7am worship and prayer night<\/em><\/strong><em>&nbsp;on IFES&nbsp;<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ifesworld.org\/wsd\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>World Student&nbsp;<\/em><\/a><em>Day<\/em><em>&nbsp;in October. We prayed for different movements on a map we&nbsp;made out of&nbsp;tape<\/em><em>,<\/em><em>&nbsp;and&nbsp;wrote prayer letters to God for a sensitive country that&nbsp;we\u2019d&nbsp;visited during the trip.\u201d&nbsp;<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>&#8220;We were able to lead prayers for IFES with 400 students at our fall conference and&nbsp;<\/em><strong><em>raised $12,000 for three other IFES movements<\/em><\/strong><em>.\u201d<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-heading wp-elements-665c6c7a0e807f97826188216a47b317\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-east-asia-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-665c6c7a0e807f97826188216a47b317\"><strong>Testimony Shapes&nbsp;Ministry<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We prayed for&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/ifesworld.org\/en\/prayerline\/a-surprise-gift\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">International Student Ministry&nbsp;(ISM)&nbsp;in the Philippines<\/a>, following the inspiring story of Justin, a Nepalese student who started an impromptu Bible study with his Filipino classmates. The ISM staff worker in Cebu&nbsp;reports:&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201c<\/em><em>I&#8217;ve&nbsp;been able to continue using Justin\u2019s story to cast the ISM vision&nbsp;among&nbsp;others, including staff workers in Taiwan and a Filipina staff worker from another campus ministry here in our city. She said&nbsp;<\/em><strong><em>it was the first time&nbsp;she\u2019d&nbsp;ever thought of international students as missionaries<\/em><\/strong><em>&nbsp;to their host campus.\u201d&nbsp;<\/em>&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-heading wp-elements-3e52ac091a4f4cfadac4a68044e271b4\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-primary-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-3e52ac091a4f4cfadac4a68044e271b4\"><strong>Keep Praying<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As you&nbsp;discovered&nbsp;how your prayers&nbsp;have been&nbsp;answered, what stirred your heart? What brought you joy?&nbsp;James 5:13 says:&nbsp;\u201cIs anyone happy?
