But not one of them need be like an island \u2013 isolated, disconnected, vulnerable. Four student leaders from Barbados, Guyana, Cayman Islands, and Guadeloupe are showing how.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since attending last year\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/ifescaribbean.org\/en\/carifes-academy-2024\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CARIFES Academy<\/a>, they\u2019ve been spearheading a project \u201cto ignite and strengthen student ministry in territories where it\u2019s small or emerging\u201d. No-one is an island.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-heading\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><mark style=\"background-color:#FFE81A\" class=\"has-inline-color\">The Dream Becomes Reality<\/mark><\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It all started at the CARIFES Academy. The IFES regional team dreamed the initiative would be a tool to identify, train, and connect staff and student leaders from their 20 movements. It didn\u2019t disappoint.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After receiving initial input online, 50+ students gathered in Trinidad for six days in August 2024, including Angel, Rekey, Lucas, and Abygale. These four were eager to apply the skills they were learning and signed up to serve in a spin-off project called the Caribbean Pioneering Initiative (CPI).&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kerwin Stuart, Associate Regional Secretary, is delighted at how it\u2019s developed: \u201cOver the past months, CPI has turned out to be a hands-on leadership laboratory for these committed student leaders!\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-heading\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><mark style=\"background-color:#FFE81A\" class=\"has-inline-color has-primary-color\">From Academy to Antigua<\/mark><\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The students have met regularly online with the national staff worker and CARIFES staff to help plan a mission project in Antigua and Barbuda, where <a href=\"https:\/\/ifesworld.org\/en\/prayerline\/stepping-back-to-move-forward\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the CARIFES team has been seeking to revitalise the movement<\/a>.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The CPI mission project will bring 25 students from across the region to Antigua in January for 9 days. They\u2019ll participate in evangelism, school outreach, discipleship, and acts of service. This program is what the CARIFES Academy alumni have taken the lead on \u2013 planning its content and promoting it to fellow students across the region.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Angel says, \u201cMy hope is that students joining the project team will step up courageously in their faith and inspire those in Antigua to do the same\u201d.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Interest in this region-unifying project has been strong. Despite students facing the challenge of raising funds to attend, 24 have already signed up. A student from Guadeloupe recently contacted Kerwin: \u201cIs it too late to join?\u201d.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-heading\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><mark style=\"background-color:#FFE81A\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Island to Island<\/mark><\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To sustain local ministry beyond the project, the planning team has ensured that five places are reserved for Antiguan students. They\u2019re also concluding with a fellowship day so that all the locals who got involved can stay connected.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The regional team hopes that CPI Antigua will serve as a model for pioneering ministry in other places like Anguilla and the ABC Islands. They may be separated by water, but such projects are defying geography as movements stand side-by-side, connected and strengthened.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-heading\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><mark style=\"background-color:#FFE81A\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Pray<\/mark><\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-list\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><div class=\"wp-block block-core-list-item\">\n<li>Praise God for the vision, initiative, and growth of these four student leaders \u2013 and all the other fruit from CARIFES Academy. Give thanks also for the IFES regional team and pray for a good response to the <a href=\"https:\/\/ifescaribbean.org\/en\/carifesgiftweek2025\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Gift Week<\/a> (24-30 November) that\u2019s raising support for their work.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/div><\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-list\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><div class=\"wp-block block-core-list-item\">\n<li>Pray for the CPI project in Antigua, 11-20 January 2026: for unity among the 25 students (some English-speaking, others French-speaking); for a heart of service; for Spirit-led opportunities to share about Christ; for Antiguan students to respond to the gospel.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/div><\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-list\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><div class=\"wp-block block-core-list-item\">\n<li>Pray for those still affected by Hurricane Melissa, which caused death and destruction in Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, and Haiti before moving on through Cuba, the Bahamas, and Bermuda.
