I was left asking<\/em><em>, \u2018<\/em><em>How much do we really know about the struggles and challenges of our peers<\/em><em>?\u2019, <\/em><em>\u2018Are we stopping to listen and accompany each one?\u2019, and \u2018Are we aware of the longing for God inside them?\u2019<\/em><em>\u201d<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Through co-leading a \u2018Well-being, Spirituality and Religiosity\u2019 research project among 725+ students at the National University of C\u00f3rdoba, Lucas has seen God do immeasurably more than he imagined.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-heading wp-elements-da74328bf92ae7bd9f74209cf3155bdb\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-latin-america-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-da74328bf92ae7bd9f74209cf3155bdb\"><strong>More Listening<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It started with his own team.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Like Lucas, the four others conducting the research were part of their local IFES group, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/abuacordoba\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ABUA C\u00f3rdoba<\/a>. But they represented different disciplines \u2013 anthropology (Lucas), theology and counselling (Amy), psychology (Sof\u00eda), and sociology (Marcos).&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cIt was challenging to craft<\/em><em> <\/em><em>questions that ensured an interdisciplinary study of wellbeing, spirituality<\/em><em>,<\/em><em> and religiosity. But as we dialogued together, we made progress, and, during the fieldwork, we<\/em><em> <\/em><em>encountered realities and results that surprised us all<\/em><em>.\u201d\u202f\u202f<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This rigorous investigation was immeasurably more than simple outreach questions.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The survey comprised a tool to genuinely listen, to gauge the emotional and spiritual wellbeing of the whole student population. This included peers\u2019 experience of positive emotions and relationships, their sense of meaning, achievement, and self-awareness, their spiritual needs and practices, and their alignment to particular religious groups and beliefs.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-heading wp-elements-3c5d0aaf6a9390f73e2b506700ed3c3b\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-latin-america-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-3c5d0aaf6a9390f73e2b506700ed3c3b\"><strong>More Partnership<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The team believed such findings would benefit various groups.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the first instance, ABUA C\u00f3rdoba are using the data to ensure campus outreach is relevant to student needs. But results have also been shared with departments across the university with a view to supporting wellbeing policies and programs. And presentations to around 30 different churches in C\u00f3rdoba are giving pastors and congregations fact-based insights into this generation of students.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-heading wp-elements-6cbf070e7f2b05fff0fab2111a4bd392\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-latin-america-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-6cbf070e7f2b05fff0fab2111a4bd392\"><strong>More Interest<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Beyond the deep listening and wide collaboration, Lucas says that what most exceeded his expectations was the high level of engagement from participants.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201c<\/em><em>There were many moments of dialogue with<\/em><em> \u2013 <\/em><em>and among<\/em><em> \u2013 <\/em><em>the respondents. It usually began with them saying how surprised they were at the depth of the questions, how they had never asked themselves such things<\/em><em>, <\/em><em>and that it had been helpful to think about them.<\/em><em>\u201d \u202f<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cIt was amazing<\/em><em> <\/em><em>that so many were interested in the survey results and in finding out about our ABUA group. Above all, I was challenged by how many were willing to listen and explore more about God.<\/em><em>\u201d\u202f<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One way ABUA C\u00f3rdoba has been feeding that spiritual hunger is with <em>Unidas<\/em> \u2013 monthly outreach studies that explore Jesus\u2019 \u201cI am\u201d sayings in John\u2019s Gospel.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Given that 48% of respondents identified as Catholic but only 20% believe in resurrection \u2013 but 30% in reincarnation! \u2013 it\u2019s vital that they come to trust the One who said \u201cI am the resurrection and the life\u201d. Then, they can experience immeasurably more than they imagined.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-heading wp-elements-917d743b59fd3c74593f4ab6ec22e9ee\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-latin-america-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-917d743b59fd3c74593f4ab6ec22e9ee\"><strong>Pray<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-list\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><div class=\"wp-block block-core-list-item\">\n<li>Give thanks for this research project \u2013 for the vision of the team conducting it, for the funds made available through an <a href=\"https:\/\/ifesworld.org\/en\/thriving-together-grants\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">IFES Thriving Together grant<\/a>, and for the high level of engagement and interest.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/div><\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-list\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><div class=\"wp-block block-core-list-item\">\n<li>Pray for wisdom in sharing survey information with university departments and churches \u2013 that ties can be strengthened and key relationships deepened.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/div><\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-list\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><div class=\"wp-block block-core-list-item\">\n<li>Pray that students will personally encounter the great \u201cI am\u201d through John\u2019s Gospel \u2013 the ABUA group asks for \u201cstudents to persevere and explore deeply so that they may grow in their commitment to Scripture\u201d.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/div><\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-separator\">\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph wp-elements-e14aeea7c6c809406db331caca26c3fa\">\n<p class=\"has-white-color has-world-student-day-background-color has-text-color has-background has-link-color wp-elements-e14aeea7c6c809406db331caca26c3fa wp-block-paragraph\">This week, <a href=\"https:\/\/ifesworld.org\/en\/world-student-day\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-primary-color\"><em>Immeasurably More \u2013 <\/em>World Student Day 2025<\/mark><\/strong><\/a>, will unite thousands across the globe to pray for students like Lucas.
