We spotlight requests from Shashank and Srinivas, part of <a href=\"https:\/\/uesi.in\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">UESI India<\/a>, an IFES movement that recently celebrated its 70th anniversary.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-heading wp-elements-4a280bf59c8d70f7bd666e279429bdc1\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-south-asia-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-4a280bf59c8d70f7bd666e279429bdc1\"><strong>Three Groups Seek Sanctuary for All<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On 18 September 1954, a dozen students from CMC Vellore, eight students from Chennai (called Madras at the time), and eight from Coimbatore, met with 15 graduates at Kasam in Tamil Nadu. They\u2019d been meeting on their own campuses for Bible study, prayer, and witness, seeking to live for Christ and make him known.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But their burden and vision were not only for those in their places of study but also for India\u2019s other students \u2013 that they too would find sanctuary in Jesus, knowing him as Saviour and Lord.\u202fResponding to God\u2019s leading, united by this common vision, they launched the <a href=\"https:\/\/uesi.in\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Union of Evangelical Students of India<\/a> (UESI).&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Over the last 70 years, UESI has spread to all states in this vast and diverse nation, with almost 700 groups.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-list\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><div class=\"wp-block block-core-list-item\">\n<li><strong>Give thanks for God\u2019s work through student ministry in India over the last 70 years.<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/div><\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-heading wp-elements-1262496c450b2aeef7832bd070298ce5\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-south-asia-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-1262496c450b2aeef7832bd070298ce5\"><strong>Sanctuary for a New Generation<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, in the world\u2019s most populous country, where less than 3% are Christian, the need for gospel witness among its 40+ million students is still immense \u2013 as is the need for leaders to help sustain it. Shashank asks:&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"366\" src=\"https:\/\/ifesworld.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-4.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-42880\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ifesworld.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-4.png 650w, https:\/\/ifesworld.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-4-300x169.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Shashank tells us that even though West Bengal is famous for being the base of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.christianitytoday.com\/2008\/08\/william-carey\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">William Carey\u2019s<\/a> missionary activities, many in the state remain unaware of or unmoved by the gospel. He shares:&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201c<\/em><em>We face very little<\/em><em> <\/em><em>opposition but also very little response<\/em><em>. <\/em><em>As followers of Christ, we<\/em><em>\u2019<\/em><em>re often at a loss to understand that<\/em><em>. <\/em><em>In the past, students from our state have gone on to help pioneer ministry in nearby states but currently we\u2019re lacking a stable pool of leadership locally<\/em><em>.\u201d<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In coming months, they plan to tackle this need by helping students who have just graduated to see the role they can play as volunteers to their local groups.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-list\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><div class=\"wp-block block-core-list-item\">\n<li><strong>Pray that God will raise local leaders so that West Bengal groups can be better supported in their witness<\/strong><strong>.<\/strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/div><\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-heading wp-elements-1d33d595d44d89f966470d44e96a8b23\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-south-asia-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-1d33d595d44d89f966470d44e96a8b23\"><strong>Sanctuary amid Contemporary Challenges<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The ethnic, religious, political, and socio-economic context varies greatly across the country. But Srinivas asks us to pray that UESI students will continue in their collective vision of influencing and blessing the country through Christ:&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"651\" height=\"363\" src=\"https:\/\/ifesworld.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-3.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-42879\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ifesworld.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-3.png 651w, https:\/\/ifesworld.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-3-300x167.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 651px) 100vw, 651px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Based in the southern state of Andhra Pradesh, Srinivas observes trends common to campuses across the country: the fast pace of life (everything must be instant), the seeking of immediate gratification, and a longing for acceptance. He adds:&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201c<\/em><em>The potential is huge. Multitudes are studying in our universities<\/em><em>, <\/em><em>but their lifestyles, priorities<\/em><em>,<\/em><em> and academic schedules can make it hard to reach them. We<\/em><em>\u2019<\/em><em>re grateful for our constitutional freedom to openly declare our faith, yet also concerned by intolerance in some areas and communities.
