HOPE FOR A NEW GENERATION<\/mark><\/strong><\/h1>\n<\/div>\n\n

For most of us, this is our first trip outside our country. It\u2019s the first time we\u2019ve seen the sea or touched sand. Our lives are really complicated, and our presence as Christians in the West Bank is made very difficult.<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n\n
\n

How long can we endure? <\/strong><\/em><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n\n

Which of our brothers and sisters outside our region are interested in us?<\/strong><\/em><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n\n

Your concern for students everywhere to encounter Christ and thrive together means that students like Selima, from our movement in Palestine, benefitted from a five-day gathering for students in the Middle East and North Africa.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

Amid war, violence, persecution, and economic insecurity, 180+ students from nine countries had much to lament. But the theme \u2013 drawing on three Arabic letters that can spell pain,fulness, <\/strong>and hope<\/strong> \u2013 reassured them of Christ\u2019s redeeming presence.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

\n

Bible studies on Joseph\u2019s response to suffering, along with seminars from pastors and psychologists, encouraged the students to face and lament their pain \u2013 and to embrace the fulness of Christ for hope and healing.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

A student from a sensitive country said:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

“This conference taught me a lot. Joseph [in Genesis] was a good example \u2013 how he dealt with difficult events \u2013 that<\/em> forgiveness is better than revenge.”<\/em><\/h2>\n<\/div><\/blockquote>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n

In John\u2019s vision in Revelation, the risen Christ repeats to all seven churches: \u201cWhoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says.\u201d<\/mark><\/strong><\/em> They had their own ideas about their situations, but they needed to hear God\u2019s view.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

It\u2019s the same today. Our news feeds constantly show us a broken world. But that\u2019s just part of the story. As we see and hear how God is at work among IFES movements worldwide, we\u2019re moved by how much richer his narrative is:<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Amid awful devastation in the Middle East, we\u2019ve seen rays of hope (p.1). Among an anxious Gen Z, we\u2019ve witnessed spiritual openness (p.5). Despite international conflicts, we\u2019ve seen students from warring nations reconciled in Christ (p.7). Against global cuts in foreign aid, we\u2019ve seen IFES movements show generous solidarity (p.11).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

\n

This is God\u2019s story of redemption being worked out on campuses, despite the world\u2019s conflicts, confusion, and cruelties.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

\n

As a global fellowship, we\u2019re also seeking to listen to what the Spirit is saying about God\u2019s work among a new generation. We recently published our Gen Z Insights Report for Global Ministry<\/strong><\/em>,<\/a> and our Discipling a New Generation of Students task force has been sparking conversations across IFES.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

\n

Read on to discover how we\u2019re working out our four Thriving Together priorities among this new generation. Together, may we have ears to hear how today\u2019s students can re-imagine the age-old Great Commission.
