Day<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-heading\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What&#8217;s behind this year\u2019s theme?&nbsp;<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2018Renewal\u2019<strong> <\/strong>is an expression of our salvation, and the bedrock of God\u2019s plans for heaven and earth. The better we understand this, the more we can have confidence to come before him in prayer.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Use these reflections to prepare your own heart or to set the tone for your World Student Day meeting.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-heading\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Why did we choose this theme for this year?<\/strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As well as its Biblical resonances, the theme <em>renew <\/em>expresses our desire for God\u2019s fresh work among the world\u2019s students after the pandemic and other recent global challenges.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-list\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>We\u2019ll be praying for weary students and staff, many of whom have endured a huge amount of online study and ministry.&nbsp;<\/li><li>We\u2019ll be praying for universities, cities, and even countries where IFES-related ministry needs a new start after the obstacles of the past few years.&nbsp;<\/li><li>We\u2019ll be praying for efforts to launch work in countries where IFES work has never flourished or never been attempted.&nbsp;<\/li><li>We\u2019ll be praying for the revitalisation of the global fellowship, with student disciples from over 180 countries, in godliness, zeal, and joy, as <a href=\"https:\/\/ifesworld.org\/the-ifes-strategy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the new IFES global strategy<\/a> unites us in a renewed vision.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Around the world there are many efforts in progress to restart ministry where needed. Some of these include:&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-list\">\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>IFES national movements striving to restart a ministry in a particular area. You may remember, from this year\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/ifesworld.org\/global-generosity-day-2022\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Global Generosity Day<\/a> , the <a href=\"https:\/\/ifesworld.org\/ggd#sp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">replanting efforts<\/a> from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.psfcfiji.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">PSFC, Fiji\u2019s national movement.<\/a> While their ministry in Vanua Levu, the Fijian north island, was stalled by the pandemic, work is underway to restart a campus ministry with a new staff worker.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ol>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-list\">\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"2\"><li>IFES regional teams helping to reignite entire national movements. This, too, was a focus on <a href=\"https:\/\/ifesworld.org\/ggd#epsa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Global Generosity Day <\/a>this year, as the <a href=\"https:\/\/ifesworld.org\/region\/epsa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">EPSA<\/a> regional team works in Namibia.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ol>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-list\">\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"3\"><li>IFES movements working to rebuild after a crisis. Before the war in Ukraine, <a href=\"https:\/\/ccx.org.ua\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CCX<\/a> was a thriving ministry. In keeping with the theme verse, which was Esther 4:14, many campus meetings included Bible study sessions on the chapter throughout the day. Students shared experiences with those from other movements, shared the gospel on campus, and shared food together. In 2021, there were two main activities.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Firstly, reflection sessions took place. There were times of meditation, sharing, and worship. Throughout the whole week the students were mobilised in online prayer groups and networks. This was a way for students to rededicate themselves to the Lord, praying for non-Christian friends, and the work of God in other national movements.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The second activity was a campus outreach, demonstrating the love that GBEEC members have for other students. We sing a hymn in our groups which has the lyrics &#8220;pray, act&#8221;. Wonderfully, several students responded to the call to follow Jesus Christ, and some were interested in joining the movement.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Through all of this, GBEEC students have a better understanding of how great the mission really is. But they also saw that through prayer, and the right actions, God graciously brings fruit for the development of the work.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-pb-accordion-item\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\"><h2 id=\"at-190382\" class=\"c-accordion__title js-accordion-controller\" role=\"button\"><strong>Togo: Broadening the vision<\/strong>\u00a0<\/h2><div id=\"ac-190382\" class=\"c-accordion__content\"><div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWorld Student Day 2021 was a unique experience,\u201d recalls Alexandra, staff of <a href=\"https:\/\/gbust.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">GBUST Togo<\/a>. It began at 5:30 am with prayer in small WhatsApp groups. There was also a chain of prayer throughout the day across the country.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Later, on campus at the University of Lom\u00e9, students gathered to discuss and pray around the theme &#8220;This Moment&#8221;. At 7pm, the celebration turned to pray for movements around the world. It was an opportunity to develop the students\u2019 missionary spirit and expose them to the realities of other movements.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In an online meeting with the movements in Congo, C\u00f4te d&#8217;Ivoire, DR Congo, and Gabon, we discussed and prayed for the skills of students to communicate the gospel with creativity in times of crisis. The majority of universities were still on holiday, and students were living with their families.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some groups simply travelled to pray together, and while some were unable to meet in person, they shared prayer topics, leaving room for members to pray wherever they were.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block block-core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The students had to be creative in order to live this exceptional moment in unity. Some groups organised a camp especially for the event so that their members could meet in a joyful way. Others went on a trip to enjoy the majestic landscape in the open air.
