Evangelism. You only hear the word and your heart-rate rises. You think of a million reasons\u00a0<\/span>to just\u00a0<\/span>walk away. They\u2019ll think you\u2019re crazy<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>T<\/span>hey won\u2019t be interested<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Y<\/span>ou won\u2019t know the answers<\/span>. I<\/span>t will be awkward.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In 2011, something happened to change that\u00a0<\/span>all-too-<\/span>familiar experience. UCCF Great Britain launched Uncover \u2013 a series of\u00a0<\/span>Gospel\u00a0<\/span>studies to help students and their friends discover more about Jesus and the life He offers.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Few\u00a0<\/span>things<\/span>\u00a0have changed students\u2019 attitude to evangelism in such a dramatic way\u00a0<\/span>as Uncover<\/span>. What\u2019s special about the resource is that it has\u00a0<\/span>given<\/span>\u00a0ordinary students around the world\u00a0<\/span>the confidence\u00a0<\/span>to open the Bible with their friends and introduce them to Jesus.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Taty<\/span>\u00a0and Karol are students in Ecuador.\u00a0<\/span>T<\/span>aty<\/span>\u00a0was a Christian; Karol wasn\u2019t.\u00a0<\/span>We asked\u00a0<\/span>them<\/span>\u00a0to share the story of their friendship and Uncover journey.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Taty<\/span><\/b>, h<\/span><\/b>ow did you hear about Uncover?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I found out about Uncover through CECE<\/span>, the national movement in Ecuador<\/span>. It was being recommended as a more personal, interactive, evangelistic resource<\/span>. It sounded like a great way to\u00a0<\/span>help your friends\u00a0<\/span>discover Jesus.<\/span><\/p>\n

Why did\u00a0<\/span><\/b>you decide to\u00a0<\/span><\/b>ask\u00a0<\/span><\/b>Karol\u00a0<\/span><\/b>to read\u00a0<\/span><\/b>Uncover<\/span><\/b>\u00a0with you?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We<\/span>\u00a0were waiting for the bus<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0I heard\u00a0<\/span>Karol<\/span>\u00a0and another friend\u00a0<\/span>talking about\u00a0<\/span>faith. They turned to me and\u00a0<\/span>asked me what I thought. I talked to them a bit about\u00a0<\/span>what I\u00a0<\/span>believe<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>and it occurred to me to invite\u00a0<\/span>them<\/span>\u00a0to\u00a0<\/span>look into it with me. I felt a little nervous and afraid that they\u2019d reject my invitation or wouldn\u2019t be interested. But it went better than I\u2019d expected! They were very enthusiastic!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

How did you find\u00a0<\/span><\/b>going through\u00a0<\/span><\/b>the Uncover studies together?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We had a good time! We went through the questions in Uncover and they came with their own questions as well. Sometimes I didn\u2019t know how to answer, but then we\u2019d go away and find out more and discuss it again the next time. Towards the end of the series, we were talking about\u00a0<\/span>salvation and Karol asked me how she could be saved. I explained that it\u2019s a personal decision and suggested Karol use her own words to pray\u00a0<\/span>to accept the Lord.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Why would you recommend\u00a0<\/span><\/b>using Uncover<\/span><\/b>?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Because it<\/span>\u2019s an\u00a0<\/span>excellent\u00a0<\/span>and interactive way to present Jesus to someone. And b<\/span>ecause it invites you to think about faith in a different way,\u00a0<\/span>using the Gospels as<\/span>\u00a0research texts<\/span>. This\u00a0<\/span>allows people to see that following Jesus is not just a religion.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It was a very beautiful experience because I could accompany others as they discovered Jesus. And\u00a0<\/span>in the end\u00a0<\/span>one of them mad<\/span>e a faith decision<\/span>!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Another of the best things was that through doing the studies we developed a very good and lasting friendship.\u00a0<\/span>It fills me with joy to know that God can use you as\u00a0<\/span>H<\/span>is instrument when you least expect it\u00a0<\/span>\u2013\u00a0<\/span>and that is only by\u00a0<\/span>H<\/span>is grace.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Karol, h<\/span><\/b>ow did you meet\u00a0<\/span><\/b>Taty<\/span><\/b>, and what was your impression of her?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I met\u00a0<\/span>Taty<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>while I was with a friend. We\u00a0<\/span>were talking about faith and some doubts that I had.\u00a0<\/span>Taty<\/span>\u00a0came up and clarified some of those doubts and then told us about the relationship she had<\/span>\u00a0with Jesus.<\/span>\u00a0She showed a lot of honesty with us and that was what impressed me<\/span>. S<\/span>he didn<\/span>\u2019<\/span>t know us\u00a0<\/span>well,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>but<\/span>\u00a0she\u00a0<\/span>opened up<\/span>\u00a0and was transparent with us<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What was your impression of\u00a0<\/span><\/b>the Christian faith before you did Uncover<\/span><\/b>?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

From a very young age I was Catholic because my parents were Catholic<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>I had in my mind a\u00a0<\/span>far-away\u00a0<\/span>God who punished me for the bad things I do<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0I didn<\/span>\u2019<\/span>t know much about the Bible or Jesus<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Why did you agree to\u00a0<\/span><\/b>read<\/span><\/b>\u00a0Uncover with\u00a0<\/span><\/b>Taty<\/span><\/b>?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Because she managed to transmit confidence and security<\/span>. She answered my questions,\u00a0<\/span>and\u00a0<\/span>when she didn\u2019t know the answer\u00a0<\/span>she was sincere<\/span>. S<\/span>he told me to find out or she\u00a0<\/span>would<\/span>\u00a0ask someone<\/span>\u00a0herself. I liked that.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>S<\/span>he was very honest with me.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

How did you find doing Uncover<\/span><\/b>?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Increasingly I\u00a0<\/span>wanted to know<\/span>\u00a0what was going to happen next or what Jesus was going to do<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>And e<\/span>ach time I admired\u00a0<\/span>H<\/span>im more<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>I loved<\/span>\u00a0seeing that in each context\u00a0<\/span>H<\/span>e came in different ways.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What surprised you about the person of Jesus?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

That He is a\u00a0<\/span>son,\u00a0<\/span>a\u00a0<\/span>brother and above all\u00a0<\/span>a\u00a0<\/span>friend<\/span>. His<\/span>\u00a0humility in every step he took<\/span>. The way\u00a0<\/span>H<\/span>e expressed Himself and talked to people<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>and answered with tranquillity. T<\/span>he value\u00a0<\/span>H<\/span>e gave to each\u00a0<\/span>person<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>His selfless love for all.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What impacted me the most was\u00a0<\/span>seeing that He\u00a0<\/span>already knew the need of the\u00a0<\/span>paralytic.<\/span>\u00a0I never thought that someone could do that<\/span>. A<\/span>nd\u00a0<\/span>even<\/span>\u00a0now every time I remember that study of the paralytic and his friends I am very happy<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0because I know Jesus knows what\u00a0<\/span>it is I really need.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What was it that made you decide to become a Christian?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The same feeling\u00a0<\/span>of<\/span>\u00a0knowing that there is someone who knows what I need and above all who loves me despite everything<\/span>;\u00a0<\/span>knowing that there is still hope in Him<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

How has your life changed since you became a Christian?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

My life has changed\u00a0<\/span>so<\/span>\u00a0much. And as I said on my first birthday\u00a0<\/span>of\u00a0<\/span>being a Christian, I feel that this year has been one of the best years, one of the years in which I felt calm in my life<\/span>. W<\/span>hatever happens, I do not want to be separated from God<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It has also changed the way I speak<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>I am\u00a0<\/span>quite\u00a0<\/span>a shy person<\/span>, but\u00a0<\/span>God has been working on that. Thanks to CECE I have had opportunities to talk to people about God, and to put aside my fears. Now I serve in my church with young people. I am excited to know that young people can, like me, know God personally in different and fun ways. I\u2019m praying for my father, who is not a Christian, to know the God of love and not of rules.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I c<\/span>ould<\/span>\u00a0not have made a better decision in my life than to follow Christ<\/span>. Every day\u00a0<\/span>in every little detail He shows me\u00a0<\/span>H<\/span>is love.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
