A new leader for IFES in 2019
The IFES Board has nominated Chris Clarke to be the next IFES General Secretary, to be confirmed by the IFES General Committee when it meets in July at World Assembly.
After Daniel Bourdanné announced his intention to step down as General Secretary, the IFES Board has been seeking a new leader for our global movement. Following much prayer and discernment, Chris has now been nominated to step into this role.
Chris is an evangelist and pastor at heart, and he is no stranger to IFES. He was born and studied in New Zealand, where he was active in the national IFES movement – as a student president, national board member, president and conference speaker.
“Simply put, the Lord – through IFES – has shaped much of who I am and how I live today. My love for Scripture, my sense of vocation, my world view, my conviction that the gospel is good news indeed, my heart for justice and for those who do not know Christ, were largely formed during my university years.”Chris Clarke
Chris is married to Karen and they have two sons, Zachary and Oscar. He is a gifted communicator with extensive experience both preaching and teaching, as well as engaging with the secular and faith-based world through television, radio and social media.
He has experience leading a large public sector health organisation and most recently leading World Vision NZ, the largest faith-based humanitarian organisation in New Zealand.
Chris is cross-culturally aware; in previous ministry roles he has travelled extensively in the majority world and has in the past lived in England, Wales and Denmark.
He has a lifelong commitment to growing Christian leaders who are biblically-based, socially-aware, and who think deeply and are globally-engaged.
Chris is currently studying for a master’s degree in theology and is also a Praxis Visiting Scholar at Green Templeton College in Oxford.
Daniel Bourdanné will continue to serve as IFES General Secretary until World Assembly in July and will help orientate Chris to the role in the coming months. Chris plans to meet with as many IFES staff and national movements as possible before July as he prepares to take on this role.
“I am confident Chris’ clear calling by the Lord to serve the Fellowship will enable IFES to flourish in the fast-changing student world. I give thanks to God who granted IFES with the gift of a new leader and am delighted to welcome Chris.”Daniel Bourdanné, IFES General Secretary
