Students Reaching Students with the Gospel

Panama

Churches have grown phenomenally in Latin America but societies battling with poverty, corruption and injustice are largely yet to be transformed by kingdom values. In this context, indigenous IFES movements are reaching students with the gospel and producing godly men and women who will influence their nations for Jesus.

Panama is a multicultural country with an economy that is focused on services, primarily tourism. Being a Christian is normal and accepted, but there is much nominal Christianity, to the point that it is losing credibility.

CEC is a strong movement with a deep sense of fellowship. They have seen student groups growing, and students are keen to commit themselves to social action and evangelism. Following a recent mission trip, they thank God that new groups are starting up in two cities where previously there was no ministry.

They are aware of the need to ensure that student leaders pass on their experience to new students so that these groups continue.

View from the inside

Marina Medina is the General Secretary of CEC. She says, 'if CEC students are able to unite their faith with their professional lives they will create a better Panama.’

She has been inspired in her ministry by many bible verses. One in particular is Joshua 1:8-9: ‘Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

Please pray:

  • for the emergence of new staff workers and fully trained and committed student leaders;
  • for students to disciple students so groups are self-perpetuating.
