CCX Russia
Praise God for a new bible study group in a medical institute dormitory! It started after a student went to a conference in a neighbouring country. She writes: ‘I loved the fellowship, the friendliness and love of the Christians. But the most important thing was that the conference was helpful for me spiritually. The foundation of the conference was the book of Daniel. It made me want to be faithful to God like Daniel - to be bold, not to hide from anyone the One whom I live for and to really live in worship to God.
‘I heard lots about small groups in the student dorms – how they were started, how students invited people, and how those students came to know Christ. A strong desire grew in me to tell my friends and classmates about Christ, so that they would not just know about him, but come to know Him as I do. I started to pray that God would give me the courage, love and strength to pursue this. With the help of CCX staff in my city, I've made a start with a small group in my dorm. I was really scared and worried but they prayed for me, but I felt God's presence and the help of the Holy Spirit. The girls who came along enjoyed reading the bible and they were genuinely interested – so I was really pleased about that!’
IS/IVCF Belize
Lance Lewis, an associate staff worker in Belize, told us about a recent event attended by 52 students and a staff of 13. ‘We had a wonderful pre-Easter camp from March 30 - April 2, under the theme “Victorious living in perilous times” (2 Peter2 - 3). Over 15 of the campers professed faith in Christ.’ Give thanks with us and pray for these new young Christians, that God’s word will take deep root in their lives, and that they will bear much fruit.
ABU Puerto Rico
Gisela Muñoz Cruz, General Secretary of ABU Puerto Rico writes: ‘This weekend is the nationwide retreat of ABU and we invite you to join us in prayer. Please pray that the Lord will reveal to us the image of his son while we study Colossians 1-2. We’ll be listening to people expound the word and also attending various workshops and panel discussions. Pray too for harmony among everyone in the small but diverse group of participants and for safety while we camp. Some unbelievers will also come to this event – please pray for God to speak to them.’
FOCUS Sri Lanka
FOCUS Sri Lanka will be having their national conference from 10-14 April on the theme of ‘Being the called community in our context’. What is the Sri Lankan context like? Some of the session topics give us a clue: students will be discussing not only the university context, but also what it means to be a Christian community in a shame culture as well as in the context of violence.
During the conference they will also appoint the student leaders who will be part of the National Student Executive who are responsible for the national level planning and the overall witness of the student ministry.
