Engaging with scripture for greater impact in East Asia
Around 25-30 staff from across East Asia are gathering this week in Bangkok to attend ‘RENOVARE’, an IFES consultation on scripture engagement (23-29 September).
The theme this year is taken from the Latin word ‘renovare’ meaning ‘to be renewed’ or ‘to restore’. Pray for fruitful times and sharing of ideas as staff think and learn from each other and from the word. Pray as they think on how to look at and think about the scriptures in new ways, as they ‘renovate’ how they engage with the word of God in their movements – that God may equip and strengthen to serve in a faithful and biblical way throughout the region.
Floods strike GBU Niger’s headquarters
Thank you for lifting up the nation of Niger in the aftermath of the flooding which has destroyed thousands of homes and crops in and around Niamey, the capital city.
Abdou Issa, General Secretary of GBU Niger, writes: ‘In Niamey, thousands of families are homeless, their houses collapsed due to heavy rains and water coming from Guinea and Mali. The Niger River is still in flood.
‘The headquarters of GBU Niger were flooded along with two churches, a private theology college and the office of a partner mission agency, SIM Niger. The forecast announces further heavy rains... that is why I am sending you this message to remember the people in Niger, especially those in the capital, in your prayers.’
Injured staff worker in Eurasia
Please join us in prayer this week for a Eurasian staffworker as she undergoes surgery after a bicycle accident during a trip to Germany. Praise God that the first operation went well and for the good care she is receiving. Please pray for strength, hope and healing for her; pray also for her movement and the rest of the staff team there, for God to sustain and provide for their needs at this time.
Let us remember IFES staff around the world in all their travels for both holiday and ministry purposes. Pray for God’s continued hand upon them and give thanks that so many do remain safe.
