Evangelistic week in Florence, Italy
GBU Firenze (Florence) recently organised an evangelistic week (8-10 May). Becky Holden, a volunteer with IFES InterAction, writes:
‘Many thanks to the Lord for his faithfulness in this last week. From 5,000 flyers we distributed, we had two new faces at the events. But we're really rejoicing at the handful of friends of students who came along on all three of the days and who then took a new testament on the last day! Not to mention the 10 GBU students who were consistently speaking about Jesus Christ with other students.
Many stopped to answer the question: “If you were God what would you do?” One-to-one conversations from this were like gold and masses of students were clearly reflecting on what they believed.’
Pray that these conversations would bear fruit, and also that students who took a new testament would read it. Pray too for Christian students to grow in boldness in sharing their faith with those around them.
Diligence and discipleship as a witness in St Lucia
IS/CCF St Lucia is planning a one day retreat today (19 May) for students on the south of the island. The theme is ‘A Positive Attitude’. The objective is to remind students of the great things they can accomplish through Christ with a positive attitude towards spirituality, school and life.
Yana Terris, a staffworker with IS/CCF, tells us more about the event and shares some prayer requests:
‘We want to encourage students to be persistent in achieving their goals and to increase networking among schools in the southern part of the island.
‘Please pray that teachers will commit not just to activities but to the welfare of students outside of the school environment. Pray that students will see IS/CCF as extending outside their school walls and for the groups to grow in strength.
‘Praise God for the availability of homes and churches which are open to students, staff and board members to have all kinds of meetings. May God bless them tremendously for this service! Pray for favour in negotiations as we seek to buy an office for IS/CCF .’
120 leaders trained on campuses in Zambia
Thank you for lifting up two upcoming events in ZAFES Zambia. Kendele Kanene, associate staff in the southern region writes: ‘The region is holding leadership training session on campuses. The target is to equip 120 student leaders with leadership and bible study skills before August 2012. On 19 May, student leaders at the Livingstone Institute of Business and Engineering Studies will be having their training while David Livingstone College of Education will have theirs on 26 May. Pray as I co-lead the sessions, and as we reach students in the region.’
Pray for God to raise up a generation of young and well-equipped student leaders in Zambia with a vision to reach out to students on campuses throughout their regions.
