Investigating the claims of Jesus
A team of Christian students dressed up as a criminal investigation team? This is the creative way in which the IFES group at the University of Malta have worked to uncover students’ deepest questions.
One of the team members writes: ‘During the first week the university main quadrangle was set up like a crime scene. Students were very curious about what was going on and it drew a crowd. Here is one of the many questions students asked God: “Why do bad things happen to good people? Are you there to stop people dying?”
‘We’ve had a lot of fun and laughs so far investigating various scenes with students often stopping to look at what was going on! There will be more dead-body outlines appearing in key places around the university. In the last week, we will uncover meaningful answers; the dead-body outline will be replaced with an outline of Jesus’s body on the cross.’
Over 135 students so far have signed up to find out more. Praise God for that and pray for good follow-up during the second and final week of the outreach!
Student conference in Lebanon
More than 80 students from a country in MENA have signed up to attend a student conference in Lebanon next week (16–20 October). ‘They are eager to attend and learn’, says a worker in the region. ‘Please pray for preparations, attendees and for safe travels. May God be in control of it all.’
Praise God for the students of LIVF Lebanon who, when they saw that students from this country could not attend a previous event in Jordan, pledged to hold this conference for them. May the Lord indeed have his hand upon this event and its participants, and may he use this time of fellowship and teaching to strengthen and build up his work in that difficult place.
New groups in St Vincent & Grenadines
Praise God for one new group which has been established in the teachers college in St Vincent & Grenadines (SVG) and for the group on the engineering campus which restarted on 10 October.
Parrot Sahayam, a staffworker from India who works with students in SVG, also shares: ‘God gave us an excellent volunteer for a school where we were having challenges. Because of your prayers God granted us favour. Of course the road was not easy but we thank God for helping us not give up half way. We were dragging our feet and are now jumping with joy! Thanks for praying.’
